So we've established that I only actually post from disaster zones

Hi everyone,

Things are going well, here, I've been roaming around northern San Diego county for the past week, basically surveying and documenting the damage for the Red Cross caseworkers so that they'll know who is elegible for relief funds, and who they need to do outreach for. The damage here is really weird: there will be a row of houses that are fine, and then one that's completely gone, or there'll be one that's still there in the middle of a row that's just decimated. There are some reasons - some houses were built with fire protection in mind, and the amount of brush/bushes/weeds around the houses makes huge difference. It's still a really weird effect, though. Some of the areas that we go into for assessment are actually still smoking (and we had one flare-up in some leaves right in front of us yesterday that we actually had to stomp out), and there's just nothing left of the houses that have burned - you can actually see every piece of metal in the house, because that's all that's left.

I actually don't know how much longer I'll be here, we're really winding down now (especially in assessment), though the Santa Ana winds are expected to pick back up again and a lot of people are really worried about that. Today we had to go scout and put out a rumor that there was a fire that had restarted, but all we found from a survey of at least 3 fire departments and some visual assessment was a car fire on the highway.

Ok, I must go now, possibly more later.
