anti climactic.
so we already know who "deep throat" really is. he is w. mark felt, the fbi's no. 2 man at the time of the watergate scandal. he sure did change history. for better, for worse and for whatever. i was just a bit disappointed. all the while i thought his reasons for doing "it" are all for the "greater good" and noble. as it turned out, he was the fbi's no. 2 top official, and all ready to assume the no. 1 post after j. edgar hoover died. but then he was bypassed. richard nixon appointed another person. im not sure who, but i think it was either a lower ranking official or an outsider. then the watergate scandal happened and all the things that came with it. including the non stop reporting and investigation for about two years by the washington post that led to nixon's resignation. we all know the story, 2 young reporters getting vital information from a very important "source" which they later named "deep throat" (for cinematic and commercial purposes, maybe). so ya go figure.
bob woodward and carl bernstein said that they will never reveal who deep throat is. they said that they will only reveal his true identity a short time after his death. but then here comes a vanity fair article telling the whole world who is the man behind "deep throat". hours after the story leaked, the washington post and bob woodward confirmed that yes, he is the one and only "deep throat".
why did he do it now? bill clinton said that it is just right that he revealed to the world who he really is, at this time that he is still alive. but then theres talk about moolah. money from book deals and all. money from woodward nd bernstein (from all the years the 2 cashed in on "deep throat"). and well, theres talk that his family is all behind this. apparently, they "convinced" him to tell it all now, because they all need the moolah they will be getting from all the interviews and prospective book deals for the college education of w. mark felt's grand kids.
oh well. oh well. people.
w. mark felt is 91 now. and according to tv reports, he is not in good physical and mental health.
for me, the first ever "deep throat" is not the shady, clouded in mystery character guy with that deep low voice from the movie "all the presidents men".
it was the late actress, linda lovelace.
as the world turns. we continue to live. i still hear marv albert talking nonsense.
