Mahou Tsukai no Yome OVA & Episode 1

Since there's not much of J-drama except for Code Blue that I'm religiously following, I basically fall back to anime realm. This season is blessed with a very pretty anime, Mahou Tsukai no Yome. I was literally sold just from the trailer, I mean, who would not? Let's see, pretty beautiful OST, checked, pretty beautiful scenery that can be easily passed off as Ghibli quality, checked, story about faeries, magic, pure fantasy, checked, characters with dark past, checked, and the hint of built up romance, checked. It's practically a complete check list of beautiful anime, and it's coming from a seinen manga, not shoujo, *step back and read the manga, and I'm on chapter 24 now, and can't wait to see how the chapters being translated into the anime*.

What gives more feel about this anime is that the storyline and storytelling are very similar to Natsume Yuujinchou, which btw, have an OVA out... I'm not sure whether this is new or not, but I definitely have yet to wach this, damn, my list is getting longer! But off course, there're a few differences, else, I'm only going to say, 'watch this, very pretty!'

The main character, Chise is similar to Natsume. She can see things that can't be seen by normal humans. So she came out as an awkward and disengaged kid. But to make it even worse, Chise has her mom committed suicide in front of her (OMG!!). So just like any other anime, she's been passed around within her relatives and had no place that she can call home (sound familiar?). She reached the point where she didn't care about anything and even throwing her life to be sold so that she can call her buyer's home, her 'home.' And that's when she had the faithful encounter with Elias, the thorn witch. Is Elias a human or a monster? Well, we'll find out in the later part of the anime, off course. But as of now, Elias is just the buyer and upon purchase he declared Chise as his apprentice. Elias is very different from Nyanko Sensei, in terms of character (we won't see Elias gobbling out dango for sure), but he served as a guide to Chise, in both magic and life in general, somewhat similar to Nyanko Sensei. Now, here's the interesting part, romance! Yeay! Another reason of why Elias bought Chise is for Chise to be his bride. However, the emphasize is student over bride, and we're going to have quite hefty of awkward moments and developments, yeay! Emotionally, Elias is the opposite of Chise, who's been hurt multiple times but at least she still know what love is about. He lacks of emphathy, so we'll see the journey from the apathetic Elias to the loving Elias. If the manga already gave me feels, I can't wait to see it in motion, anime, and mind you, I have to give kudos to Elias' seiyuu, Takeuchi Ryouta. Elias' face is basically an animal skull, so you don't see the character with any facial expression, and no eye expression as well, but we can feel his concerns, worries, and even scowling, just from his voice!

Another point that makes this anime different from Natsume Yuujinchou is that this anime has a bad guy, an evil dude. I really hope Chise destroy this guy after so many souls and humans lives destroyed by his whim and curiousity.

If you're not convinced yet, just watch the trailer, it's really damn beautiful!!!
