[source] yes okay this is the super long Boromir Feelings Post orz. (that ended up not being so long because apparently i can't even coherently express half the feelings i have ;;)
boromir.
let me start by saying right off here that i have a lot of boromir feels; most centering around the fact that even if he was such a flawed character, he died a good man. i think they actually intensify every time i rewatch lotr 1, because the first time he appears on screen, with the council of elrond, i can look at him and think i know everything, i know how this journey will utterly change you as a person.
boromir, okay, you cannot deny he was flawed. the very fact that he could not resist temptation makes him a condemned character, the very first inkling that boromir might be succumbing to the ring's power makes us sit back and shake our heads and think you are fucking doomed. compare him to aragorn; they are both human, and yet aragorn can be interpreted as infinitely more noble because he seems to be above the basic human greed for power, while boromir's decidedly not.
but asdjsifid you see in the end it's always loyalty, loyalty over greed, because it's boromir's fucking loyalty and honour, also both very human characteristics! that make him let go of frodo and step back and look at himself and realize what he's done. and subsequently die protecting pippin and merry.
ALL MY FEELS because he's a character with so much depth, he's such a human character, who just wants to protect things and i love him for it. yes he was so fucking flawed but he died a good man, and that's the important thing ;;;
OKAY NEXT BIT is Faramir Feelings, which are sort of an Extension of Boromir Feelings.
faramir's story makes me cry ugly tears every single time because just argh. it's so easy to blame boromir for everything that faramir goes through, but you can't, because you know that there was never any resentment or anger between them, it was all stupid fucking denethor.
there's this one scene;

fjsdifjij where pippin is singing his beautiful song, and faramir is riding to his death, and denethor is just.... eating. it's such a brilliant scene fdijij, SO WELL-TAKEN ARGH. you have this contrast of billy boyd's wonderful pure voice and then you have denethor gorging himself, cracking bones, squishing fruit, not giving a fuck that his last son is out there riding to his death. this scene pretty much sums up all my faramir and denethor feelings okay. fduiugdfigf.
faramir is always, always, desperate to prove his worth. i always like to think that it's not about making denethor proud, it's about doing justice to boromir ;;; ugh that scene where gandalf tells him not to ride out to osgiliath, that it's madness to do so, and faramir just says what else can i do? and then they're riding out, and people are throwing flowers in their path and it's all so fucking noble. it's all about honour; of course it's stupid as fuck to ride out, of course it's completely futile to do so, but they can't not, because they are human, and noble and honourable.
ALL THE FEELS OKAY.
