Where the Wild Things Are

I was dead set against a Where the Wild Things Are movie being made. Then I found out that the director was Spike Jonze. He did Being John Malkovich, and Adaptation, not to mention some of the best music videos of all time (Beastie Boys' "Sabotage", Christopher Walken Flying in "Weapon of Choice", Weezer's "Buddy Holly").

I never thought I'd say this, but this movie may actually be good.

It's being penned by an actual author, David Eggers, the guy who wrote "Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius." I never read any of his stuff, but at least he's got literary credentials. It's nice to know that "Where the Wild Things Are" isn't being handled by the team who brought you "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" or something.

Obviously the beauty of the book was in its simplicity, and a two hour movie is going to, well, not be simple. Still, everything Spike Jonze touches gushes with heart, weirdness, and humor. I think it just might be worth watching.
