Wow...so I read the autobiography of Ben Franklin and didn't hate it as much as I thought I would.
I mean sure...it was really dry and he was probably the most pompous, arrogant man of all time...but he really did have a lot of interesting viewpoints on life.
Like about the idea that virtue and piety can be completely separate. When you think about the time he wrote his book, that was an extremely revolutionary idea. Coming out of a viscious theocracy and existing among the insane zealot Christian morons of his day, it's pretty bold for him to come out and present the notion that one can be virtuous without the help of organized religion.
So why is that 200+ years later, the so-called "moral majority" can't wrap their heads around the same idea?
Anyway...if you're ever bored (or if you should happen to take Dr. Murray's "The American Dream: Visions and Revisions") I would recommend picking the book up. He can be irritating at times, and the writing can tend to get a bit dull...but overall, he was a pretty interesting guy with some cool stories to tell.
Oh my god...I actually learned something in college! Fuck me!
