Australia Day 1 + 2

Apr 08, 2009 16:03

Yesterday me and Rin came back from Australia. We spent from March 26th to April 5th in Sydney. However we did take the overnight bus to Tokyo on the way out and the way back so yesterday was a very very tiring day!

First impressions of Australia. Hot and....green. The sky was pretty blue and well...everything seemed famiar to me. It was as if I had landed in a hotter version of Britian. It was very surreal!

I took about 800 photos in Australia and so much happened, so I'll keep it day by day and I'll try and remember what we did.

Friday 26th March

Finally arrived in Sydney at 11ish. We got through customs all fine and dandy and then we finally got to see Kylie who was waiting on the other side with her dad. Kylies not changed at all, just a lil thinner (must take food next time!!). We met her dad and then we went to Kylies house which was pretty funky! Rin had to speak english of course! This was hilarious!

After we arrived and put our stuff down, we headed out for lunch at a pub. Fish and chips and some wine for me. Then we headed to the center to go for a wander and well look at shoes as Rin had bought these aweful 100yen shoes to wear in Sydney, which could only be discribed as Toilet slippers... of course he didnt buy any...but that would be a matter of time. Shopping in sydney is just like shopping at home...however everythings double as its in dollars...which confused me outright.

Then....we phoned Miguel (migs) who I studied with at uni. So we went to meet up with Migs. Hadnt seen him for almost 2 years and well, he hadnt changed at all! Cept for the hair...which was shorter. We then headed to a bar at Darling Harbour for happy hour and we started our holiday with some cocktails.

Cinnamon Apple or something...it tasted gooood. Me, Migs, Rin and Kylie....drank...alot... It was happy hour so we just kept ordering. I especially like the beer, "Bees Knees" which was honey tasting beer. Pretty nice on a hot day.

Later on, Eubim popped in! So it was like old school reunion! Migs friend showed up too and after a few drinks all was merry. Rin was ID'd by the barman though.... He asked him for ID and he only had his Japanese uni card....so he showed him and that the guy had to ask Rin where his birthday was on it because it was all written in Japanese! Was so funny.

We then headed to James Squires for some steaks. We were undecided on what to eat or where to go but we finally stayed and had a steak. However by this point I was slightly intoxicated and I dont think I fully enjoyed the steak.....

Yum Yum! It took alot of effort to eat!

We were later joined by Jo, Jeanette, and Adam from the previous Gifu years so it really was a blast from the past! I was a bit miffed that I didnt take a picture though!! But I really felt a bit icky because by that point we hadnt showered! We were  also joined by some of Migs mates and the new guy who is going to Gifu this year. After we played pool, drank some chocolate tasting beer and admired the big huge tanks in the brewery section of the pub.

Brewery in a pub! Pretty clever.

me and Migs drunk. As you do.

After, we went for a walk down the harbour and had a hot chocolate. Which was pretty delightful. Nothing like hot chocolate when drunk :)

We then departed and Saturday happened. Breakfast was awesome. Kylie made us eggs...bacon..the works. Then we went shoppinnnnng! Oh shopping how I missed you!

This is QVB "Queen Victoria Building" which is protected as its pretty old...but it was beatiful!

Pretty...and full of designer shops!

We took Rin to a toy shop!

And found some pretty funky hats.

and Gachapin from Japan which was....$315!!!!!

The view from the building.

Outside the shops.

Pretty...and very very British.

After was...Coffee time!

waiting...

Being silly.

And then we got some coffee in the form of iced coffee + Milkshakes. Yum Yum.

Sydney has very tall buildings.

and a Woolies!!

Which is a supermarket here! I think the one back home is related...it must be!

Earlier that day we went to a food hall to get some lunch... mmmmm Kebabs....

And Gemma (Kylie's sister) showed me the best places to buy bras (of which I came out with....7 of them) and Clinique stuff (the sales assistant was so cute!).

We also found a 100yen store.. or rather a $2.50 store with Japanese items.

Very Japanese.

Did I mention the money in Australia is really weird?

You can even wash it apparently. Theres little windows of plastic in them too!

At night we went for cocktails whilst waiting for our friend Liz to turn up from Canberra. So we went to Karlittos or something :) Which was pretty nice. We did try to get into another bar but...Rin had shorts on so he was turned away! The cheak!

Mango.....Long island tea....and something cherry!

Rin didnt realise it was very very strong.....

I liked my mango drink :)

Finally we met up with Liz who was as lovely as ever and we headed to a Thai restaurant called Atoms to have some Thai. It was very busy but the guy that ran the restaurant gave us some free starters to make up for it. It was delicious! I love Thai food!

Our starters! Yum yum! Satay chicken!!!

Our mains. I cant remember what they are though.

Green Curry

Something with noodles.

The little restaurant and us.

Jo turned up later and we had a nice time talking and enjoying the night :)

After...we went for a walk

We found some interesting Graffiti and decided to copy it.

and then this! a Seven Eleven! Which I didnt know existed in Australia

We then went to a bar that had some music playing and decided to dance.

Me and Rin being stupid

Jo being very Japanese

Kylie with funky hair flicking skills

Kylie, Jo and Liz

and us lot :)

at the end of the night Liz took us home in her funky funky blue car.

Which was pretty funky!

and Kylie and Rin died from suffocation from my new bra purchases.

There were alot of bras....

And thus concludes day 1 and 2 of Australia... bear with me...I might get the whole trip finished!

spring holidays, fun, australia, travel, photos, rin
