The primary election was held today, and the street was studded with concerned citizens bearing literature to help voters make a good choice. But I don't belong to a party, so it's just annoying. Coming home was like running a gauntlet. Someday I'm going to snap and beat a volunteer over the head with his picket sign.
My book group is reading A Match Made in Hell: The Jewish Boy and the Polish Outlaw who Defied the Nazis by Larry Stillman. It's a true story; apparently the titular Jewish boy was somehow left behind when the Jews of his village were deported to a camp, and he survived by teaming up with a criminal. It sounds interesting, but stories of that time and place are so grim, I don't feel enthusiastic about this one.
We were supposed to meet on Friday, but we've postponed till next week. I'm relieved, because I only received the book yesterday, and would have had to cram like mad to finish in time. And I'd have had to set aside Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander, which I started over the weekend. Now I can finish that first.
Ah, procrastination! It's my greatest talent.
