the garden:
extended it - its about double the size now. this involved breaking up huge thick clods of earth, pulling out roots and rocks, and gently nudging worms and grubs out of the danger zone.
planted most of the herbs (basil, two types of thyme, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, lavender, dill,)
picked a place for the remainder herbs to go (sage, mint, catnip)
planted the arugula, peas, and two rows of onions

all before afternoon nap time!

the kid:
played on the lawn
chased the cats
tasted some onion and shallot bulbs and dandelions
ate some dirt
completely soaked herself in a big tray of water that we brought out for her to splash in. she cried every time she had run out of water and we re-filled it from the hose.
played with daddys huge boots
thrashed around with a trowel trying to imitate us. tried to eat the trowel. tried digging up the lawn, the cats, a juggling ball, daddys leg, and some potted plants with the trowel.

the cats:
discovered the catnip, amused everybody with their stoned antics (well i guess not really, because in the case of mats, catnip means 'go to sleep')

new this year in either or both gardens:
catnip
lavender
brussel sprouts
asparagus

still to go in:
the rest of the salad greens
the rest of the herbs
a couple rows of beets
the asparagus crowns

things that we havent yet organized but are going to happen in the immediate future:
tomatoes
hot peppers
broccoli
cucumbers
zucchini
maybe some type of squash
bush beans
snow peas
and whatever else we like the sound of
