Oh, this was absolutely wonderful. Sirius and Aberforth's characterizations were so sharp and spot on, and I especially liked how you wrote Aberforth and Albus' relationship. Also, I really liked your Regulus and that scene where Regulus and Sirius walked into Hog’s Head. Well done!

Thank you so much for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed the characterizations, particularly the sibling interactions. I was really out to capture the complex nature of relationships between both sets of brothers.

Also, I'm sorry for the delay in my reply. I've just gotten back from vacation. :)

First of all, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so happy that you liked the story. Handling such complex and flawed characters seemed daunting at first, but it really turned out to be a joy because there were so many connections in canon that were just waiting to be drawn.

Secondly, thank you for your recommendation! Your support and the added attention it brought to this fic really meant a lot to me. Thank you so, so much!

My apologies for the slowness of my reply. I've just come back from vacation. :)

Here on tetleythesecond's rec. A truly great story. Alberforth is just as I imagined him from canon - down to earth, very much his own man, and he may not be the usual kind of publican, but he certainly has a publican's insight in human nature.
I loved his 'happy thought' and the touching explanation for his patronus. And the things Sirius tells him about his patronus make the rest of the story utterly believable.

Great work!

Thank you! Your compliments mean a lot to me. I'm so pleased you found Aberforth in character and insightful. I had a real struggle to find his voice, but I'm glad I had the challenge. I must have read his chapter in Deathly Hallows about thirty times, and when I was thinking of the origin story for Aberforth's Patronus... well, what else could it be? Thanks again!

And I'm sorry for the delay in my reply. I just came back from vacation. :)

I adore Sirius and Aberforth's conversation about Albus and why he'd make a lousy Secret-Keeper: it really is an insightful glimpse into all three characters, in a fic that's full of great little moments. Well done.

Thank you for your kind words! I think so many people focus on why Peter was the Secret Keeper instead of Sirius, but in my mind there's always the underlying question of 'Why not Albus?' I was so excited to answer that question, and I'm so happy that you enjoyed it as well!

Sorry for the slowness of my reply. I've been on vacation. :)

This story is sheer genius! You show us so much about those two pairs of brothers - Sirius and Regulus, Aberforth and Albus - and I simply love how you compared and contrasted Albus and Sirius through Aberforth's eyes. My heart is in my throat right now, and I'm choking on emotions. The characterisations of both Aberforth and Sirius were so vivid and complex, and I love all the new angles you used to look at canon. I want to go and reread the books right now, just to see how it all adds up. Thank you so much for a brilliant and captivating read.

Thank you for the compliments! Inspiring someone to give a closer look at canon is one of the highest compliments a fic writer can get, in my book. I really wanted to show the complex relationships between these siblings by setting up a parallel and then ripping it apart. I am thrilled that you enjoyed the story and the characterizations.

My apologies for the slowness of my reply. I've just returned from vacation. :)
