ooo, this is SO SWEET! I love love LOVE how Hermione opens up to McGonagall, and being show the animagus transformation and the conspiracy to not tell her parents everything! And the canary attack spell! Just perfect. I love the idea that the professor kind of gave something of herself to the young girl. Just lovely.

This was very cute. I had a big smile on my face through most of it.

This is adorable. I love young Hermione here -- you've given her the perfect combination of cleverness, curiosity, and sheer nervousness -- and the explanation behind her knowledge of spells at the beginning of PS. McGonagall comes across wonderfully as well; I particularly liked the Animagus transformation.

The Oppugno references at the end were just an extra treat. And footnotes in fic are always good.

This is wonderful! I've always wondered about how 11-year-old Muggleborns would be introduced to Hogwarts, and there are very few fics on the subject. (The Dursleys don't really count, IMO.) I think you have perfectly captured Hermione's character and the beginnings of her relationship with Professor McGonagall. I LOVED the ending, that Hermione chose Gryffindor because of her new friend instead of being put in Ravenclaw. ;)

Hee! I love that bit with the canaries! I've always enjoyed imagining what it must be like for Muggleborns to receive their letters, and how the parents, ah, deal with it all. I ♥ Minerva here so much! Lovely story!

As for your author notes, I (finally!) got the Deffry Vale reference (mmm - I want chips - smart chips! - so badly right now, dammit!) but I can't find the other just yet.
