I like this! A very different and original take on the HP universe. Reminds me of the biographies of the early twentieth century arctic explorers.

Thanks! (And well done for spotting who wrote it. :D)

A surprising story, and one I wouldn't have thought of writing. And Jocunda is exactly the sort of person you would expect to do such a thing: a dreamer with an understanding of the hard-headed realities to succeed. (Although my mind insisted on asking, "What did she do for bathroom breaks?")

Nicely done.

Thank you. I did consider the 'bathroom breaks', but decided that would be a bit too much detail for the tone of the piece, especially as the conceit is that it's written in the style of something she might have written for a magazine in the late 1930s. :)

What an intriguing story! It read just brilliantly, and somehow, somehow, I feel the voice echoes a bygone era. Very rivetting. I'd have loved to read more detail of the trip - as the bathroom breaks thing, for instance (though that would not have been in keeping with the voice-of-the-bygone-era bit), her thoughts (rather than reminiscences) and such-like. How did she spend so many hours NOT being bored? I've sailed a bit and I know how boring the blue/grey/green seas can become, and she did it for 4 days! Wowsa!

Thank you. Yeah, I left out the 'bathroom breaks' as too much detail for the era -- I'm glad it sounded right, I was trying to get that sort of bygone feel! When I worked out how long it would take, I did wonder about the boredom factor (it would drive me nuts), but I suppose with a broom it would just be a case of pointing it in the right direction and checking every now and again to see that it wasn't going off course. :)

Very nice - I like seeing a wonderful backstory created, woven into the scene itself, of crossing the ocean. Great idea and great work!
