OVERCHARGES AND UNDERCHARGES ARE THE SERVER'S RESPONSIBILITYsprings1November 3 2007, 06:24:23 UTC
Anonymous “Any customer who complains about menu/computer overcharging, especially by cents, and blames the server is cheap and looking for a reason not to tip.”
NOT TRUE AT ALL! You don’t understand I tip 25%-30% A LOT for good service. The fact is I am TIRED of being a server’s “BABY-SITTER”, when since they are making a tip, they are SUPPOSED TO make sure I am charged correctly NO MATTER WHAT MEANS THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH TO GET THERE. Do you honestly think you aren’t supposed to be able to put 100% trust into your server? So I should just have to look over my shoulder ALL THE TIME for people that are *********TOO LAZY ASS*********** to ****CARE**** ABOUT MY MONEY? It’s about if the server DOESN’T “CARE” about my money, WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I CARE ABOUT THEIRS? It’s all about CARING and if the server isn’t going to care about overcharging someone and the fact that THEY WORK THERE even so they should have MORE KNOWLEDGE than a CUSTOMER does, so WHY should I tip someone well to not care as well as not even care about what prices they are charging? It’s NOT at ALL like a cashier at a store, because you would have to go physically to the shelf each time to find out a price instead of a piece of paper and the most important factor, these cashiers DON’T know the price until they scan it, which the server can make sure the prices on the menu match the check prices that are already printed on the check. It’s not like scanning an item and not knowing the price until it is scanned. The cashiers also AREN’T EARNING tips from customers, so HONESTLY WHY THE FUCK SHOULD A CASHIER CARE IF THEY OVERCHARGE ME OR NOT? They are getting paid through their employer at least minimum wage. It’s not like a cashier’s money is riding on what kind of service they are providing me.
This has NOTHING to do with being “CHEAP” at ALL! This has to do with being IRRESPONSIBLE for what the server is charging the customer and being VERY UNCARING about the customer’s money, but when it comes tip time though, a LOT of servers seem to FIND THE TIME TO WRITE THEIR PERSONAL NOTES ON THE CUSTOMER’S CHECK FOR THEIR “TIP POINTS” THOUGH. Doesn’t that sound like SELFISH SERVERS? These servers should be more worried about the prices they are charging the customer than worrying about writing crap that doesn’t sway people one way or the other no matter what studies they say it does. Honestly, just because someone happens to tip higher when a server writes “Thank you” on the check, DOESN’T mean THAT IS WHY they tipped that high. They CANNOT honestly PROVE that unless they asked the customer personally if they tipped higher based on that.
WHY should I have to pay more if the price that is ADVERTISED on the menu is less when I originally placed my order, so I was going by THAT PRICE when I ordered, NOT whatever is in the computer? WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH BEING “CHEAP?” I get overcharged A LOT at stores such as Wal-Mart, so that money adds up overtime if I would just let it slide each time. I have EVERY RIGHT to tell the person that is charging me if want to. It DOESN’T make me “CHEAP”, it makes me SMART. It honestly makes the server look STUPID that somehow a CUSTOMER KNOWS MORE ABOUT THE MENU THAN THE SERVER DOES. Unless the server is a new hire, the server has been there MORE HOURS than we have MORE THAN LIKELY, so I feel it’s sad when I know more about a menu than they do.
If you have the time to write personal notes to your customers, you have the time to check over the check for your customer as you are SUPPOSED TO. YOU ARE MAKING THE TIP, NOT THE MANAGER, SO YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE! THE CUSTOMER IS **NOT** RESPONISIBLE FOR POINTING OUT DISCREPANCIES! It’s truly NOT an “ERROR” if the server didn’t even attempt to ***TRY*** TO PREVENT the overcharge from getting to the customer. That’s just called LAZINESS when that happens. It’s just like studying for a test. If you don’t study as long, you probably won’t get as high of a grade. Same thing with this, if you don’t try your BEST, you won’t get as good of tip.

I honestly cannot believe your ignorance. I'm glad you're keeping tabs of your own dickishness, and even advertising it. I hope someday you work a job that pays under $3 an hour, then maybe you would have a different idea of what lazy is. Until then I hope spending this amount of time fretting over 30 cents puts you in a better mood. Just to clarify... The home office of the restaurant I work for controls pricing, and most menu's contain a disclaimer for people like you. Feel free to cook your own meals, serve them to yourself and you won't have to worry so much about who else is responsible for your own attitude problem.

"I honestly cannot believe your ignorance."
I can't honestly believe YOURS. You'd rather have to check each price yourself when you are paying someone that you would think should *CARE* if they want your money that they should care about yours.
"I hope someday you work a job that pays under $3 an hour, then maybe you would have a different idea of what lazy is."
NO, if anything, that's MORE INCENTIVE to BUST MY ASS TO MAKE MORE. Working at McDonald's you have no incentive to bust your ass. You get your paycheck for doing the bare minimum there.
"Until then I hope spending this amount of time fretting over 30 cents puts you in a better mood."
Yes, because it shows how VERY UNCARING servers are about your money, but then they want yours, huh?
"The home office of the restaurant I work for controls pricing,"
NO, ***********YOUR SERVER************* CONTROLS THE PRICES THAT THEY HAND YOU ON THE PIECE OF PAPER CALLED A CHECK YOU IDIOT!!
NO office controls prices. YOU control the prices that you decide to hand me.
Bread pudding has on the check $4.95, but if the *MENU* had $4.25, you can CONTROL SEEING THAT if you were my server, couldn't you to decide to get it fixed from your manager or choose to pay the rest yourself out of your own pocket, right?
YOU CONTROL WHAT YOU CHARGE ME, IDIOT, NOT THE RESTAURANT!
The restaurant is a building, not a person. The restaurant has a computer system. The computer doesn't have a MECHANICAL ARM that decides to hand me the check. YOUR SERVER HANDS YOU THE CHECK 99.9% of the time and if your server doesn't someone else does, but it's a REAL LIVE HUMAN BEING THAT CAN ***READ**** JUST LIKE THE CUSTOMER CAN!!
NO computer controls pricing, your SERVER CONTROLS the problem from getting to the customer IDIOT. I cannot believe YOUR IGNORANCE that you want to **PUT BLAME*** ON A BUILDING OR A MACHINE THAT DOESN'T HAND YOU YOUR CHECK.
"most menu's contain a disclaimer for people like you."
If you are talking about "Prices are subject to change", well I HONESTLY have only seen ONE MENU have that and it was a to-go menu.
Most menus DO NOT have that. Even if they did, they have a printed price, they honestly should go by the price they have ADVERTISED even if they have that disclaimer.
Do you see on this to-go menu at Outback any disclaimer's? I can't show you the dine-in menu, but normally 99.9% of the menus DO NOT have a disclaimer KNOW-IT-ALL!!
"who else is responsible for your own attitude problem."
You have an attitude problem that you want to put blame on a building or a machine instead of PEOPLE that can *READ* that see the problem LASTS BEFORE you get it.
Bloomin Onion states on the Outback Menu it's $6.79. If my check had $7.29, guess what? ANY CHILD even can see the difference in numbers even. WHY can't you? YOU ARE TOO IGNORANT TO UNDERSTAND COMMON SENSE IDIOT!!
GO FUCK YOURSELF!! YOU ARE LAZY, UNCARING, AND SELFISH to think of OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY!! You are just concerned with your money, what about the customer's money, huh? If you want their money, don't you think you have to *CARE* about theirs in order for them to care much about yours? It's just like comparing lottery ticket numbers to a newspaper, ANYONE can do it just about. You are too stupid to understand this. WHAT AN IDIOT YOU ARE!!
Re: OVERCHARGES AND UNDERCHARGES ARE THE SERVER'S RESPONSIBILITYsprings1November 12 2011, 05:20:03 UTC
You are deciding to hand me a number "7" instead of a number "6" for example on a piece of paper. It's just numbers. They have to match the *MENU* which is the ADVERTISED PRICE that BY LAW they can only charge you what price is advertised.
It's just number comparisons. It's not the home office that made you let's say overcharge someone. *YOU* AND *YOU* ALONE DECIDED TO HAND ME THE CHECK WITH THE INCORRECT NUMBERS ON IT IDIOT!!!
YOU ARE FUCKING UNCARING AND A STUPID IDIOT THAT I HAVE TO EXPLAIN ***COMMON FUCKING ASS SENSE ISSUES TO YOU!! A CHILD AS I SAID CAN DO IT. Go get a 5 or 6 yr old, they can tell you what number doesn't match. WHY can't you do the same, huh? Because you are TOO LAZY AND VERY UNCARING to do that. I am telling the truth. YOU ARE LYING TO THE PUBLIC!! NO BUILDING OR COMPUTER MADE YOU HAND ME THE CHECK WITH NUMBERS WRONG ON IT IDIOT!!
A lot of times my bar accidentally has the happy hour prices long past happy hour, but you are right: instead of ringing up the $4 for a margarita it says is the price (happy hour), I should make sure they pay $6 after finding the manager to reset the prices to "make sure I am charged correctly NO MATTER WHAT MEANS THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH TO GET THERE"
"A lot of times my bar accidentally has the happy hour prices long past happy hour, but you are right: instead of ringing up the $4 for a margarita it says is the price (happy hour), I should make sure they pay $6 after finding the manager to reset the prices to "make sure I am charged correctly NO MATTER WHAT MEANS THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH TO GET THERE" I'm glad we agree on something"
Yes you should. By not doing that, you are costing yourself more money on the tip MORON! Any smart non-lazy server would do just that. By not doing that, *YOU* are STEALING from the company you do realize that, right that you are 100% RESPONSIBLE for what you decide to *CHARGE* the customer? By you neglecting to change it, you are stealing from the business. Then if the customer doesn't pay a tip or you keep the entire tip for yourself, then you are stealing from the business by purposely undercharging the customer. Even if the person doesn't tip, you should be paying out of your own pocket for stealing from the company. By not doing so is THEFT!
So yes I 100% TOTALLY AGREE with you on that. If it's not happy hour, then it's not happy hour. That's how it works. It also goes the other way around. If I order at 6:58, but my server doesn't get to the computer until 7 which that's when happier hour ends in the computer system, by my server not getting the manager to charge the happy hour price is theft. If the manager doesn’t fix it, you decide if you want to steal from the customer, you should get no tip. It's only fair. If happy hour ends at 7p.m., then if it's not 7p.m. yet, it's not fair that I can't get the happy hour price.
