Summary: Togano figured a little private training had never hurt anyone. (His mistake.)

Linemen had to be strong - Hiruma had said so, and while not everything Hiruma said was true (Togano would believe that about Juumonji and Sena when Juumonji told him it was true, and no sooner) Togano thought that this one thing was probably true.

(Besides, Football Monthly had said it, too, and if Togano had learned anything from reading Dragon Ball Z, it was that 1) you could always get stronger and 2) there was no such thing as an easy victory, but if you were on the right side, you'd get there eventually.)

Thus, it had seemed a good idea to train - not just with Kuroki and Juumonji (who seemed to be Hiruma's favorite 'now, pipsqueak, let's practice you dodging a lineman' training-dummy for Sena) but also by himself, alone, with nobody to distract him, or make him feel like he'd never amount to anything at all, just like Juumonji's father had said (and what kind of job had /he/ gotten himself by being a model-student, Togano'd like to know - it was one thing for Hiruma to give them that kind of shit, because Hiruma gave /everyone/ that kind of shit, and he'd got the firepower to back it up, too, but Juumonji's father was just a big loser with no idea of either good manga or good football).

Of course, being a lineman meant he had to practice with /someone/ - benchpressing and jogging were all very well, but they were no substitute for an actual person who tried to smash you and break you and walk all over you. Thus, it had made perfect sense to head for the one place where Togano'd be sure to find someone willing to engage in a bit of friendly dirty fighting a la juvenile delinquent method. Especially (though Togano wasn't happy to admit that even to himself) since Hiruma had already cleared the way, so to speak.

As he got slammed against a wall with 'Zokugaku Chameleons Rule!' graffiti-ed on it in bright neon-yellow letters, it occured to Togano that perhaps, he should have been at least a little wary of practicing one on one with the guy who'd once told Sena he was the strongest linebacker there was (which hadn't been true, because that was Shin) and that he'd break every single bone in Sena's body (which also hadn't been true, since the Devil Bats had won both the game and the five-million-yen bet).

"You don't stand a chance."

And if Hiruma acted like a Devil Bat sometimes, then Habashira definitely hissed like a chameleon, complete with freaky tongue (but without colour-changing skin). Togano bared his teeth.

Maybe he'd try and convince Habashira to show him some tricks he could do with that tongue of his. /After/ Togano'd proven him wrong about the Devil Bats a third time, of course.

(It wasn't really funny, but when he finally headed back home, early in the morning after, he felt like every bone in his body was broken, and like nobody could possibly be a stronger linebacker than Habashima, and like Togano'd never stood a chance to beat Habashima one-on-one - he supposed that was what it meant to be a team, though; that you could beat people up because you had friends with you, and hadn't he gotten together with Kuroki and Juumonji for that reason?)

(Habashima /had/ shown him some tricks he could do with his tongue though, and pretty kinky ones, too - Togano hadn't thought some of them were even /possible/ outside of those trashy manga he'd made fun of with Kuroki sometimes - so Togano figured that the whole thing hadn't been a complete loss, especially since Habashima'd said he was welcome for a rematch any time.)
