As for the other things:
1. Hee, thanks! When I started writing this, I had no intention of including a detective OC in the mix, but he showed up in that doorway and pretty much refused to leave. ;-)
2. Hah -- I hadn't originally planned on bringing in JJ, either. This whole fic has pretty much been an exercise in getting bullied by a runaway plotbunny.

Guilty as charged, I'm sorry to say. In fact, part of why it took me five months (!) to post part 3 is that I finally gave up on the idea of wrapping the whole thing up by Valentine's Day -- which meant I then felt obligated to work harder on fixing the pacing problems I could identify. (With part 3, there ended up being a LOT of beautiful-but-boring outtakes. *rueful*) I hope they'll be less noticeable in the second half!
At any rate, thank you for the detailed feedback - I do have part 4 partly drafted, and it shouldn't take me another five months. If nothing else, plotbunny!Dee is still mad I didn't let him slug Ryo 4000 words ago, and he's probably going to sabotage any other writing I attempt until I do let him loose (be it on Ryo, or JJ, or yet another OC). ;-)
