If there was ever a question of to whom Tohru belonged, it had been long since forgotten in the wake of her shared love with Kyo. It grew slowly with time, slowly enough that they didn’t realize what they had fallen into until it was far too late to stop it. Not that they wanted to, but there were the bonds Tohru had built with the rest of the former members of the zodiac to deal with; the same bonds Kyo had yet to fully develop. Old habits die hard. Older prejudices die even harder. Tohru had found her way with the others, where Kyo had yet to sort it out for himself.

He was understanding and patient, and it wasn’t an entirely conscious choice he made that by way of his demeanor it was clear to anyone who saw them together that Tohru belonged to Kyo. He loved her, and his love meant his protection. It was the dark way he looked out across crowds, daring anyone to cause her any more harm than she had already endured; to try and destroy her. No one could so much as conceive of going against Kyo, and by default that deferrence was extended to her by way of his love for her.

Even if the way Kyo acted about Tohru wasn’t enough reminder enough, there were careful markers across her. Never to indicate violence, no, just enough to show that it was his tender touch that kept her company at night. It was always just enough to give vague suggestion of their passions but never enough to be obscene. The blush on her cheeks when she met his eyes and looked away. The faint bruising from his lips that scattered across her collarbones and peeked out from behind the collars of her neat blouses. The sudden tenderness that hadn’t entirely been present before they were together. It was the little things that gave them away and reinforced the principle of the matter.

Tohru was his, and anyone who challenged that be damned.
