Prompt: Crossover: Kingdom Hearts/Magic Knight Rayearth, Guru Clef+Sora(/Kairi/Riku): Inner strength - "Here in Cephiro, belief is power."
A/N: :/ As usual, I think this turned out okay, but am not entirely sure. However, this makes me want to write a longer fic in which more characters are involved and Umi gets to say "He's on a first name basis with Mickey Mouse!"

Clef had thought that the Magic Knights would be the only people from another world to enter Cephiro. His world was, after all, protected by its pillar from invasion and no outsiders could enter unless summoned. He was therefore surprised to find that apparently, given the right ship and a strong will, outsiders could get through the barrier. The one to prove this fact had been King Mickey, when he came to warn them of the Heartless, and then later when he asked Clef to teach his friends magic. Though he agreed, at first Clef couldn’t imagine why Mickey would ask him to teach them when they already had Merlin and Yen Sid. The reason became clear after Sora, Riku, and Kairi arrived. In Cephiro, belief was power, and all three needed a lesson in belief.

Riku needed to learn to believe in himself. He had a tendency to be overly cautious, as if he were afraid of what he might be able to do if left unchecked. It wasn’t obvious, but Riku’s spells weren’t what Clef would expect from someone whose heart was strong enough to control Xehanort’s Heartless. Not that they were weak, but they didn’t set him apart as particularly strong-which Clef knew he was.

Kairi needed to learn to believe in her friends. Not that she didn’t trust them-there was a difference. Yet she was too quick to cast healing and defense spells on Riku and Sora. It was as if she didn’t believe her friends to be capable of taking care of themselves; or maybe was afraid to think they could make it without her. Her spells were powerful, backed by a strong heart and real concern for her friends, but they left her drained and with little ability to help herself, a potentially fatal flaw.

Sora needed to learn that belief requires a focus to guide it. Though not weighed down by the issues that Riku and Kairi faced, he was still easily distracted. On the surface his spells are much like Riku’s-weaker than Clef would have thought. However, the cause was different. Clef could sense the will behind all of Sora’s magic, but given more than one enemy Sora would always try to attack both of them, instead of concentrating on one, then the other. The result was spells that did little damage and used more effort overall.

The three of them were challenging students, to say the least, but Clef knew better than to let himself become overly discouraged. After all, he would be no fit teacher if he didn’t believe in his ability to teach, and their ability to learn.
