“My lady, it’s good to see you,” Gimli said, absently twisting his beard.
Eowyn smiled and reached over to his hands. “I’m all right, Gimli.”
Legolas nodded to Eowyn. “Your bravery was truly of great note.”
“Everyone in battle had great courage. I am no exception,” Eowyn said. “However, a few kept count of their kills.”
Gimli and Legolas looked to her in surprise.
Gimli recovered first and puffed out his chest. “I beat the elf.”
“I killed much bigger prey,” Legolas countered.
“They still only count as one,” Gimli said gruffly.
“He has a point though,” Eowyn said. “Depending on the size and skill level of your enemy, they should be worth more points.”
“Nonsense!”
“The lady makes sense,” Legolas said.
“You’re only saying that to beat me!”
“Actually, I have you both beat,” Eowyn pointed out.
They stared at her as she recounted her kills, naming species and method of execution. “Oh! And let us not forget the King of the Nazgûl.”
Legolas shifted. “You know, maybe kills should only count as one.”
Gimli’s jaw dropped. “The elf agrees with me?!”
Eowyn laughed. “How about I split him with Merry? He’ll only count as half.”
“Deal,” Gimli and Legolas said. They glared at each other and that only made Eowyn laugh more.
Faramir listened against the doorway and smiled.
He was in love.
