Ritsuka/Soubi: Offering of self - "I keep your picture by my bed/for when I'm feeling sad"
He wouldn't ever want to admit it to Soubi, the idiot would think too much of it and wouldn't leave Ritsuka alone for days because of it-but…he kept his picture close by. One of the first pictures he took of Soubi. Initially, he kept it to remind himself that the memory existed, that he wasn't just imagining things or Soubi or what happened that day. But now…
…it was a reminder that someone liked him, even as he was and not whispered about how he was before. When Soubi was away or busy or doing something that Ritsuka probably wouldn't approve of -that idiot-Ritsuka kept the picture by his bed when he was feeling sad. It helped, even if he could just glare at the picture instead of Soubi himself, lecture the glossy photo instead of getting frustrated at the real thing.
It wasn't the same, but it was proof that Soubi was real. Ritsuka kept it close and waited, even if he would never say it out loud, for Soubi to return.
He wasn't expecting Soubi to come in that night, watching him as he slept. He didn't realize that one of his hands was still brushing the picture after he drifted off. He didn't see the sad look Soubi gave him and the picture and the positioning of it all.
Instead, he woke up when Soubi sat down next to him, brushing at one of his ears and leaning over him. "Ritsuka…did you miss me?" he murmured.
Ritsuka shot up, eyes wide as he backed away from that warm breath, that stupid tone and it was Soubi---"No, idiot," he growled out. "What are you doing in here anyways? You're going to get me in trouble," he whispered angrily, ears flat against his head and away from Soubi.
"I hoped Ritsuka would miss me," Soubi sighed, brushing at those annoyed, flattened ears, smile teasing up the corner of his mouth. Ritsuka just scowled harder and crossed his arms over his chest.
"You left for a long time, idiot. Why would I miss someone that keeps leaving?"
Soubi just gave him another smile and ignoring squawking, muffled protests (because he really didn't want his mother to wake up) pulled Ritsuka closer and kissed one ear. "But how can you miss me if I don't leave?" he asked. "I want Ritsuka to miss me sometimes."
"You're still stupid, Soubi," Ritsuka glared, submitting only a little and tail still puffed out in irritation. "You didn't say that you'd be gone for so long this time." He wouldn't admit, he wouldn't… "Making me worry when you’re perfectly fine."
"Ritsuka worried over me?" Soubi breathed, that smile more real now as he gave Ritsuka another kiss, if only to see the scowl again, that irritation that was so prominent with Ritsuka when he looked at Soubi. "Does Ritsuka want to punish me for making him worry?" he breathed into his ear.
It had the desired effect-a blush so deep that Soubi could almost feel the heat of it, a hurried shrug and Ritsuka barely suppressing the urge to yell at Soubi. He instead huffed and crossed and uncrossed his arms. Soubi didn't look disturbed at all.
"Pervert."
Soubi just smiled and patted Ritsuka's head. "I keep Ritsuka's picture close by, too," he murmured. "For when I'm feeling sad."
