“Basch. I would spar with you. You will join me?”

Basch looks up from cleaning his blade, mild surprise registering for a brief moment before he nods his ascent.

“Yes milady. Of course.”

“Good. Barehanded, I think. I would not wish for either of us to unduly injured, and we have no blunt weapons.”

She does not wait for his answer, but turns on her heel and walks purposefully to a nearby rock shelf that overlooks a large area of the Ozmone plain. He leaves his broadsword with the party and joins her, stationing himself opposite, some feet away. He sinks down slightly to steady himself and brings up his hands, clenched into fists.

There is a pause as they ready themselves.

Then they begin.

Basch fights heavy, using the sheer body force to bring down his opponents when he fights without a weapon, and he outweighs Ashe by far. But Ashe is quick, her hands callused like a soldier’s, and she has studied the art of shifting weight so the maximum force is either gained or lost, depending on the desired outcome. They would be evenly matched but that Basch will not - can not - harm her, and so is fighting a defensive battle. She corners him on the shelf ledge, and he must push her back to stop himself from going off the edge. But she is as ever unyielding, and before he can get too far towards safety she uses his advance against him and kicks his legs out from under him. He goes down, landing flat on his back with a thud that knocks the breath out of him. She pins him to the ground.

Her voice is fierce, but there is also pride in it.

“Yield to me.”

She does not know that he already has.
