These things were usually Sora's fault, but Riku would own up to his part this time.
Of the two of them, Master Terra more often walked in on Riku. As his apprentice, and successor, Riku had accepted that training to become a Keyblade Master was going to be difficult, edging into impossible, and always grueling. He welcomed that.
At the tender age of twelve, he'd been the one pushing his master to give him more difficult techniques, more intense strengthening regimens.
Master Terra had taught him the strength of patience. He rewarded progress with the things Riku begged to learn. He was religious in the practice of training early and for long hours. Which would have been fine, but for one embarrassing problem.
Being woken in the early morning for a brisk workout and breakfast before training didn't bother him. It was almost nostalgic. His mom had done it for school, and Riku had always been an early riser. Lately, however.... He would have appreciated a few more minutes alone to complete morning... ablutions.
He had yet to find anything that embarrassed him more than trying to hide an erection from his master while the man stood, smiling and oblivious, in the doorway.
Riku would have dealt with it in his own way. By not dealing with it, suffering in recurring discomfort and mild frustration until his master got a clue. Except he knew better. Master Ven got clues. Master Aqua found the ones people hadn't meant to drop. Master Terra noticed them stuck to his forehead when he looked in the bathroom mirror, and was forced to pull them off after he failed to read them backward.
But then Sora had found out- because quote 'You have no idea how embarrassing it is when you're trying to rub one off and he bursts in- "Good morning, student!"' unquote. His impression, right down to Master Terra's genial expression, was so accurate that Riku winced. Which made Kairi stop snickering, and Sora's face go blank with shock.
Riku denied it, of course, but they knew him too well, and if Master Terra walked in on Sora, of course he did it to Riku. Only Riku's skill at keeping things to himself had prevented them from realizing earlier. But it was okay- they'd complained about it, joked about it, and he had felt a little better.
But then Riku had made the mistake of saying, "It'd serve him right if he walked in on me having sex. Maybe that would teach him to knock first."
Sora had shrugged. "It worked for Master Ven." Then Sora had gotten that look on his face. Which meant another harebrained scheme. Which meant another mess he and Kairi would have to pull him out of. Because Sora's confidence was the stuff of operatic tragedy. Yet the aid of his friends and Masters had resulted in the success of each and every plan. He'd never known failure, which meant he'd never learned from it, which meant he remained convinced of his own genius.
Unfortunately for Riku, he eventually became convinced. Kairi went along to keep them safe... and for the hell of it. Whatever else she said- and she did, at great length- she never accused them of causing her boredom.
So Riku accepted the blame, here and now, for Sora's lack of pants, Kairi's undone blouse, and his own shirtlessness.
It was Sora's fault that despite their current state of dishabille, they were doing nothing more incriminating than sitting on the same bed. Kairi was reading a magazine, Riku was practicing spell control with a few pebbles, and Sora was lying on his back near their feet. His body was still, but his eyes tracked across the room, following arrows that Riku had painted here and there upon the walls (later improved by Kairi's sense of color complementation and textures 'for True Light, Riku, will you use a different base color?') to teach himself different Keyblade techniques.
The concept had been simple enough. They would allow Master Terra to walk in on them while they deliberately engaged in some form of sexual behavior, scar him for life, and make him afraid to open closed doors without knocking from then on. This, Sora had insisted, was the best day on which to do it. Master Terra would already be stressed because of Master Yen Sid's visit. He'd want to get them up early and make sure everything was in order. He would come searching for them and they'd be ready.
They had been ready for the last two hours. Which was, apparently, Sora's limit. He sighed, long and dramatically, and lifted his hands.
"Okay. I'm callin' it."
Riku raised an eyebrow and sent the floating pebbles to click down on his bedside table.
"Why, Sora." Kairi mocked astonishment, turning a page in her magazine. "You? Admitting defeat?"
"Of course not," he said, un-phased, "but we should get ready, and if Master Terra hasn't shown up by now, it means he's really busy-" Sora got up, frowning, and stood beside the bed. The decorative zippers on either side of his jacket swung, striking gently against tighty-whities (which Riku sometimes couldn't believe Sora still wore... unless he was only wearing them today for added effect). Riku found himself staring at tanned thighs, then at the slight bulge in Sora's underwear... and quickly away before someone noticed. Peripheral vision caught the line of skin that showed between underwear and v-neck shirt before Sora tugged it down. "-so we'll just have to do it some other day."
No, Riku thought. Because when he considered it... (as he hadn't allowed himself to earlier) he wanted to 'do it'. When he thought about it- because suddenly he couldn't not think about it with Kairi's legs and faint smile, Sora's tight ass and lazy expression. He could not think about it in detail and sit still and calm next to them. So now that Sora was calling it off, he started to think... and thinking led to wanting, wanting led to needing and... damnit, it wasn't taking much to get him hard at all (not when he'd spent so many mornings fantasizing just those shoulders, the collarbone and the smooth, soft skin, trailing his lips down from them until he was sucking on Kairi's breasts. He'd fantasized that ass, squeezing it, driving himself into it over and over and listening to the sounds Sora would make as they had sex, slow and soft, fast and hard- he didn't know, really. Now they were both here, all three of them were half-dressed for some idiotic plan to stop the interruptions and his repetitive frustration and Sora was doing the same thing Master Terra had been. Stopping the show at exactly the worst time.
Never mind that Riku had gotten himself all hot and bothered (yet again) just when it became apparent that nobody was getting any today.
The Darkness could eat that idea.
Sora was on his back again, wind knocked out of him all at once, staring up at Riku. All before Riku fully understood that he'd reached out, snagged his best friend by the hood of his jacket, and pulled him onto the bed. Sora blinked up at him, surprised. Riku had to admit he'd always liked that expression. Wide blue eyes, lips slightly parted, one hand up instinctively before logic caught up the last two steps- this is Riku, Riku is my friend, I wouldn't take a Keyblade to his head unless we were sparring.
Luckily, Riku found words before Sora could suck in the breath to ask what he was doing.
"Do you seriously," he said, leaning over Sora's dumbfounded stare, "think you're going anywhere right now?"
Riku listened to the speed of Kairi's breathing, which had picked up, following her pulse, and the very soft noise of her setting the magazine on the bedside table. She shifted and Riku saw her tuck her legs beneath her, put her weight on her knees... and her hands on the comforter. He glanced at her quickly. It occurred to him that regardless of their close friendship, Sora might take a Keyblade to his head. Just like Kairi might light a fire (a very literal and painful fire) under his ass.
But they'd had that day in Twilight Town. They'd had hours on the clock tower, hands warm with the sunset and lips sticky-sweet with ice cream, when Riku had rounded the side to hear Sora whispering-
"-because I thought you wanted to kiss Riku, and I didn't think it was fair if I did first, so-"
Kairi's gaze is more intent than Sora's. Her cheeks are flushed and lips parted, eyes darting between them- and if anything her blush grew when she noticed Riku watching.
"I- um..."
"That goes for you, too." He swallowed, hoped she hadn't heard his voice crack at the end. Uncertainty was creeping back, no matter how decisive he tried to sound.
Ven felt his student's heartbeat pick up and reached for Sora the same way he would have run, had run, toward the sound of his pained screaming. He heard Kairi's voice.
:-bit more comfortable.:
Then he felt cloth under his (Sora's) back, a hand twisted in his (Sora's) hood, air on his pupil's naked (naked?) thighs. He saw her as Sora did, from the vantage point of someone lying on a bed, looking at a girl who kneeling above him on a rumpled blue and yellow quilt.
Sora watched as her hands stole up to the next button in her half-opened blouse and she smiled, and undid it, revealing the curve of her-
"Oh sweet Light!" Ven clamped down upon the link between his heart and Sora's. Then he pressed his palms into his eyes and tried to forget the mental image of his little sister's naked breasts.
He'd known Kairi since she was eight. He had tried for the last four years to deny the fact that she had breasts. He was now torn between the urge to fist-bump Sora because his student and heart-brother was about to have sex, and shaking him for putting the moves on Kairi and thus earning himself death (or possibly castration, if she was feeling merciful) at Aqua's hands.
Then again, he might save Aqua the trouble and kill Sora himself.
He couldn't worry about Riku- to whom the hand in Sora's jacket must have belonged and who was therefore in just as much danger as Sora. He didn't have a spare panic button for Terra's kid.
"Ven?"
Oh shit.
Aqua called his name again. Ven listened to her jogging down the hall and tried to collect himself before she got to his side.
"Are you okay?" She set a hand on his shoulder, all sisterly concern and tenderness and it was impressive, really, how she could do a u-turn into homicidal rage where Kairi was concerned.
"Aqua, yeah." Ven forced a smile and started searching for a lie to tell in response to her inevitable query-that-wasn't-a-query, because she wasn't buying the grin.
"... I heard you shouting."
He made himself look sheepish and apologetic. "Yeah, sorry. I just remembered Lea; our anniversary is this weekend and I haven't gotten him a present." (Which was a lie in several ways because their anniversary was last month and Ven had selected a gift five weeks ahead of schedule.)
But Aqua bought that, smiling and letting her hand fall from his arm. "Well. I'm sure he'll love whatever you give him."
Oh had he. Ven hoped his smirk was more dorky than lascivious. ... Then noticed the block between his and Sora's hearts had slipped, and squashed any reaction he was having to his student's emotional run-off.
"Have you seen Kairi?"
"What?" Ven jumped, twisted to look at Aqua, and inwardly cursed. She was beginning to look suspicious. He slung an arm around her shoulders- briefly relishing that he was the taller of the two of them (though Terra still placed first-) and subtly giving himself a place to grip.
"Well?" she asked, slipping a hand about his waist.
He flinched, which was as good as a yes, and said, "Not personally."
Aqua smirked. "Where are they?" He winced again, and she squeezed him affectionately. "You can tell me. I'll take the blame for interrupting whatever plans for Worlds Domination they've concocted this time."
Oh, someone was certainly getting dominated. Ven didn't want to look closely enough to find out whom.
"Aqua, I love you."
She smiled sweetly but didn't tear up as she had seven years ago, when Ven had finally grown up enough to realize dignity mattered a hell of a lot less than telling your family that you cared about them.
"I love you too..." and then she realized he was about to say something she wouldn't like. "Ven. What are they doing?"
"Promise me you won't go rushing over there with your Keyblade drawn." Which more or less told her what they were doing. Ven felt the hand at his waist loosen. Aqua's shoulders grew tense. She breathed in. Then she relaxed.
"I promise," Aqua said, very slowly. "Now, what exactly are they doing?"
He squashed the impulse that was his 'inner Lea' to cackle like a maniac and answer each other.
"Foreplay," he said. Then he tried all at once to restrict Aqua, keep her close, and cringe away. "With Riku," he said as Aqua stood frozen beside him, "in his room."
Calmly Aqua slid out from underneath Ven's arm and began walking down the hall. Ven followed, caught up, and walked briskly beside her.
"I don't think we should interrupt them."
Aqua shot him an incredulous look, never breaking stride.
"I mean, they're only teenagers. They won't last long, and I think the trauma will be worse if you walk in while they're still in the middle of- of..." he just couldn't say it. His brain still gibbered in amazement that he'd managed to say this much.
"They're only teenagers," Aqua repeated. "They're too young to-" and she spluttered for a moment before falling silent, because obviously they weren't. She tried again. "We never did that when we were their age!"
Ven was not going to blush. Not going to blush. He cleared his throat. "You didn't." Then he chuckled. "I think Terra still hasn't."
She abruptly stopped walking. She looked tired, careworn and more than a little shocked.
"I just-"
"You didn't want to know that." Ven sighed and gave her a one-armed hug. "You want to see it even less. Trust me."
Aqua laughed weakly and turned to hug him in full.
"When did you become so wise?"
"I learned from the best." He rubbed her back, enjoying the embrace as he listened to her laughter. Then he said, "I know you don't want to know that, because I don't want to know it either."
She sighed. "I remember when Kairi led you by the hand and told stories at your bedside."
He remembered that the way he remembered dreams. Half-formed impressions of a small hand wrapped around his fingers. The wind on his cheeks and a cheerful voice that talked about everything, anything. Someone who left pauses not to rest her voice, but to give him a chance to answer.
"In my head," Aqua murmured, "I know she's nearly grown. My heart forgets."
Ven grinned, shifting his chin on her shoulder. "I remember when Sora made up crazy Keyblade maneuvers and explained them to Riku-"
"Who perfected them," Aqua finished for him. "Whether they were useful or not."
They disengaged, and Ven leaned against the wall, sighing. "I don't like to remember they're growing up," he admitted. "They'll be training for the Mark of Mastery soon and that went so well for us."
"You did well," Aqua teased. "But you're right, and whether or not they make Master, we'll send them out to face the Worlds, and the Unversed-" And their originator, he heard in her silence.
Because Vanitas wasn't stupid enough to come here (unless he was feeling exceptionally bitchy) and pick a fight. Not here, where Ven had his family beside him, waiting to back him up. Beside him... behind him, or in front of him- oh sweet Light. He needed to teach that boy to shield better. But he knew why he hadn't. His student was cocky, and impetuous, and needed people to pull him out of the fire far too often for Ven to deliberately shut down his best warning that Sora was in trouble. Ven rubbed at his forehead.
"You go head off Master Yen Sid, and I'll go pound on their door?" he suggested.
Aqua ruffled his hair and went to do just that. Ven took a moment to screw on a convincing scowl. He had doubts about his 'angry' look. According to Lea, 'angry' on him usually meant 'pouty' and that wasn't what Ven was going for. He'd heard the kids whispering amongst themselves that Ven looked scary when he was mad, but he had yet to figure out what that looked like. The times he was well and truly pissed off, he usually didn't have the opportunity to glance in a mirror. He drew himself up and prepared to storm down the hall... and then he remembered he didn't want to walk in during the middle of someone's orgasm and cautiously checked- and regretted it.
He felt the slightly roughened palm and fingers wrapped tight around his (Sora's) cock as he (Sora) thrust upward. He felt soft lips closing over his (Sora's) and breathed in flower-scented shampoo as Kairi's hair trailed over his (Sora's) cheek.
"Shit," Ven muttered to himself, trying to focus on the wall and how he was not in that bedroom. At least Sora's eyes were closed. He couldn't reclose the connection, but he could imagine something (someone) else. He could-
-flinch violently as the door opened with enough force to strike the wall. He could get caught up in Sora's spike of panic, lightning-flash of rage, and eventual... triumph? When he (Sora) realized it was Terra standing frozen at the door. Ven (Sora) watched his customary grin fade, watched the recognition creep into his face.
The connection snapped at Terra's scream. Ven flinched and was running down the hall before he fully regained his sense of self and stumbled into a wall... but only one. He heard the slamming of a door echo down the corridor. Around the next corner he found Aqua, and Yen Sid striding in the wake of her robes.
So he was already here. So Terra had gone to shake his apprentice out of his bed. Or, in this case, all of their apprentices. Out of Riku's bed. They found him in front of Riku's door- his thankfully closed door. His back was braced against it, arms splayed to either side as if he was the only thing keeping a terrible monster at bay.
Yes, the terrible puberty monster, slayer of innocence and virginal adult eyes throughout countless generations-
Terra focused on the blue-robed form as the one to whom he owed an explanation and proceeded to gasp one out.
"Master Yen Sid, they... they were-"
Ven winced. He listened to Aqua take two steps forward, but Terra and gravity were quite familiar with one another and Terra was heavy. He fell quickly and with a painful-sounding thud. Ven sighed. At least they didn't have to calm him down. Aqua looked faintly guilty and Yen Sid looked... Light help them, he looked amused.
"Right. Master," Ven smiled politely, "may I suggest you and Aqua commune with Master Eraqus while I... deal with this?"
Yen Sid snorted, smirked a bit more obviously, and offered Aqua his arm. She took it, allowing him to steer her away-
"You know, my dear, in my day, we had the sense to do such things off the home World."
"Oh! I... you-"
Maybe, Ven reined in his amusement, he should feel sorry for her. Stories about Yen Sid's sex life were likely to scar her worse than Ven's. But he would wonder about that some other time. Ven did his best to reapply the scowl as he stepped over Terra's legs to the conspicuously silent door.
He beat his fist against it. "Okay you three. Ten minutes." He pointed a menacing finger at the door even though he knew they couldn't see it. "Ten minutes and I want you cleaned up, presentable, standing at attention in the throne room." Then he smirked a little. The last would be particularly difficult, if they'd gotten as far as Ven thought they had.
"Ten minutes?" someone squeaked. Probably Kairi. Might have been Sora.
"Is he serious?" Riku whispered amid the squeak of bedsprings, rustling clothes and two other voices frantically shushing him.
"Do I sound like I'm joking?" Ven thundered. He ignored Terra, groaning a protest into the floor tiles.
"No, Master! We're getting ready!" Sora called. There was a thump, a bang, and the sound of water running.
Ven smirked, shoulders trembling as he fought to keep his laughter silent. He wondered whether they would be able to salvage the outfits they'd worn on the way in, or use something clean of Riku's. He could remember more than one day in Radiant Garden spent wearing someone else's pants, and receiving more than one knowing look from Isa. Lea was too tall. His pants were too long and... well the baggy look was 'in'. Lucky for their apprentices.
"Mm... what-"
Ven hurriedly extracted his feet from the sprawl of Terra's legs. He stooped and offered Terra a hand.
"C'mon, man. Let's go fix you something for that head."
Terra accepted the hand, blinking at Ven and prodding cautiously for knots- there weren't any. Not yet, anyway. Ven grimaced.
"I was talking about the mental images."
"Were you planning," Terra almost sounded hopeful, "to beat me over the head until they go away?"
"Well no, I was thinking alcohol," Ven chuckled. "But as for our students..."
