Summary: Braig is bored, annoyed, and in pain and wants something to do. Specifically, Aqua.
She's got her eyes closed, her face turned up to the light. She's sitting by one of the fountains, and anyone else would be slouching, but she's got perfect posture, even when she's down like this. It's probably not, from what Braig can tell, the same as Terra, who's got a stick so far up his ass it's practically showing in the back of his throat. With her, it's just part of the package, stillness like a mountain lake.
Braig's never claimed to be a good guy. Or a nice one. A guy, yeah, but guys have needs, and fuck if he doesn't have a need right now. She's not off-limits - the old guy'd told him when he noticed him looking - but Vanitas'd laughed and told him it was his own damned funeral and that he'd be lucky to get a kick in the balls for his trouble. And that, in itself, makes Miss Master Aqua a challenge, and that is way too intriguing to turn down.
He sits beside her, stares across the square like he's barely noticing her when she looks at him. His face is still burning, as if the dark fire bled into his bones. He looks, if he's gonna be honest, pretty shitty and worn out. His lip quirks up and his cheek twinges at the feel; painkillers can't catch everything. "Hey," he says quietly, like he's not even thinking about her, really. "Rough day?"
Her lips curve in a shy smile. "Maybe a little. You look like you've had a tough day yourself." She sighs and wraps her arms around herself, and hey, maybe this is a way to perk up both their days a bit.
"Wanna talk about it?" he says. "Sometimes problems don't look so bad whe you share." He shifts so that he's facing her better; everything still looks weird, and it's easier to look at things straight on.
She sighs and spreads her hands. "I was just trying to protect my friends. One of them...is making terrible decisions, and I wanted to help him see that. The other one is too young to be away from the safety at home, especially with the Unversed around. But I did everything the wrong way, and now they both think I betrayed them." She falls silent, then shakes her head. "I did break Terra's trust. Not...not Ven's. But Terra's, definitely."
Braig shrugs and sets a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, look at it this way. You were trying to protect him from making bad decisions, right? Sometimes there isn't this one huge right thing to do." He pulls back to touch his face. "I majorly messed up when I trusted this one guy. But the only thing you can do is go forward and try to be better, right?"
It works the way he figures it will; she smiles again, then reaches out to his face. She stops short of touching it, though, and pulls back, which is good because it hurts like a wicked bitch. "I'm sorry something like that happened to you," she said. Her expression shifts to something stern and suddenly that kick-in-the-balls comment from Vanitas is making a lot of sense. "No one should get away with harming other people like that."
"Oh, trust me," Braig says airily, "he'll get what's coming to him in the end. It's just...left me kind of down about people in general."
The stern expression fades and Braig can relax a little. Aqua stares up at the sky again and rests her hands on her knees. "I know what you mean," she admits, and he shifts closer to her, not quite invading her space yet, but just on the edge there. "I just...have to have more faith, I guess. Thinking about it doesn't make it happen, though."
There, he thinks. "Well," Braig says, "I can't fix that for you - that's your burden to deal with - but I can try to cheer you up a bit."
Or maybe he's screwed it, because after a moment of looking like a tram just hit her, she's looking at him all amused. "If your next line is 'do you want to see my etchings' I'm going to laugh at you," she says, but there's already laughter in her voice.
He's gotta give it to her; she is a perceptive lady. Though she probably gets hit on all the time. Back off or brazen it out? Well, he may as well go for it now. "Hey, I just made an offer to show you my cock, not some etchings."
She does burst into giggles at that, which turn into laughter. It's actually pretty insulting; he may not be as pretty as he was but it won't stop his fucking around. Braig waits through it as she wraps her arms around herself and rolls off the bench, laughing until all that's left are little hiccuping sobs. "Sorry," she manages to choke out. "It's not...not you..."
"You done?" Braig asks after another spate of laughter. Her face is flushed and that is just so totally unfair, to have her laying on the ground, panting and staring up at him like that.
Aqua waves a hand, pushing herself to her feet and bowing low. "I'm...I'm very sorry, that was a terrible reaction to your...suggestion. You just reminded me so much of someone else." She sits back down next to Braig, looking somehow brighter now than when he arrived, as if the light in her is shining for all to see. "I wouldn't mind if we cheered each other up a bit. But not here," she adds quickly, glancing around the very public gardens.
Braig grins at her, even though it hurts. Here he thought she might be all blushing and virginal, too. Vanitas is just an idiot, it looks like. "I've got a room," he says, and he gets to his feet.
She stands and tucks her arm through his. "That's acceptable."
This has gotta be what Master Xehanort feels like all the time, he thinks, as he starts off towards his room. Just say the right words and people fall all over themselves to think you're something different than what you are. He's gotta say, he can't complain, when it wins him prizes like this. Sure, life would get awkward later, but now? It's pretty sweet.
