"The Boulder thinks that you have greatly improved your stance!" The man said proudly as he draped a towel over his shoulders, muscles bulging from exertion. Haru looked up at him, heart thudding nervously from the training and from what would follow next, as it always did.

"I still have a long way to go," he said as he looked up at the sky, leaning against one of the many rocks they'd upended during their training. Haru could almost swear that the canyon had become wider as a result of their earth bending.

Snorting, The Boulder leaned next to him and the conversation ground to a halt, as it always did once they ran out of small talk. After a few minutes, Haru's hand crept towards his, as it always did, unsure and hesitant. And as always, The Boulder's response was to pull him into a crushing kiss, hands trying not to bruise.

This is the Earth Kingdom, and men don't do this. The Water Tribes had their warrior-bonding, but everyone knew the Water Tribes were strange but good people. The Fire Nation had men who were openly lovers, but everyone knew the Fire Nation was perverse and decadent. But this does not happen in the Earth Kingdom. Those thoughts would always run through Haru's head before he finally returned the attentions he was receiving.

It wouldn't be long before he found himself shifted onto the other man's lap and Haru would fight back a moment of panic, wondering if they'd be caught, then catch himself, remembering that no one came to this canyon. No one would see him shaming his family; no one would see The Boulder shaming his manhood.

As bits and pieces of clothing came off, what little they dared strip away, it would become easier. Haru could forget that this wasn't training, that he was lying to his father, his mother, his friends, himself. This moment of normalcy, however precious, would pass of course and they'd cover up their shame with more training.

Of course, one day their training would end, but only when Haru finally admitted that he knew far more than The Boulder ever had.
