Highschool of the Dead anime (thoughts).
Hey, anime-fan.
And, so, I just watched the first episode of the brand new anime called Highschool of the Dead (HOTD in short). It's the adaptation of its original material [manga] by Satou Daisuke. Possibly wondering what the anime/manga is all about?
"A mysterious, lethal disease is on the loose worldwide, resulting in a catastrophic death rate of humanity, and the increasing rise of attacks, caused by the living dead.
In Japan, several high school students and a school nurse have banded together to escape Fujimi High School shortly after it was attacked by zombies. The group now attempts to figure who or what was responsible for this plague, and in the meantime, attempt to survive the present apocalypse.
The story is initially narrated through the eyes of Takashi Komuro, one of the students who had survived in the initial outbreak." (from Wikipedia)
So, in short, it's about a zombie apocalypse.
But I've got to warn you, it contains a lot of blood and gore. And... big breasts. No, it is not hentai, don't fret. Because HOTD is more like a bloody ecchi. You'll see several girls flashing their panties nonchalantly -- but sometimes I might have to blame the wind for that. It got on my nerves at times, because it seemed a little bit ridiculous (I mean, come on! You get a breeze and your skirt suddenly flies? LOLwut), as I never was a fan of ecchi manga or anime; heck, I still managed to ignore all that element.
I've seen people on the Internet discussing how excited they are when they mentioned Highschool of the Dead. I was curious, then searched through Google to look about it. After knowing it contained ecchi, I'm not seeing this whole oh-my-panties-just-got-flashed crap. I was about to drop it when something snapped in my mind and made me ask on one of the forums I visited,
"Is this anime any good?"
Then a user told me HotD is one of the most anticipated anime of the season, which made me even more curious to see it.
Because of that, I watched the first episode last night before I went to bed. A lot of reactions occurred.
First impression: Oh for God's sake, what's with the girls?!
After that: ZOMG. DON'T KILL! OOGH OGGGGGH.
I felt that there was a part where it seemed a bit rushed, where a zombie-teacher came to school. It just came, like, out of nowhere. It'd be nice if they presented that part slightly clearer.
Then that first zombie bit a teacher and that teacher bit another teacher and another and another. And so that's how the whole zombie apocalypse began at Takashi Komuro (the main character)'s high school.
To be honest, it kind of reminds me of Resident Evil or Parasite Eve for some reason. Maybe that's why I suddenly became interested.
My verdict:
I think I'll stick to this anime and see how it'll go.
