We're still waiting to see what the results of Mom's second round of chemotherapy will be.  She's been feeling the nasty side effects of the chemotherapy for the last several days, especially nausea.  She did feel a little better yesterday than she had the previous two days

that's natural.....if any state of affairs (however unfortunate) lasts for a while it becomes routine and loses its capacity to shock. there's nothing callous in having adjusted to reality. i think it ought to make your support more reasonable and thus helpful.
