Bad news
Mom learned today that she probably has one of two closely related conditions - Acute Megakaryocytic Leukemia or Acute Panmyelosis with Myelofibrosis. They are basically rare forms of leukemia. The prognosis for them is usually not good.
I should feel devastated, but I just feel a little shocked and stunned and numb. I think I'm still in denial about how serious this is.
She hopes to get a second diagnosis soon to confirm if this is really what she has. If it is, we hope to be able to get her treated at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. It's considered one of the best places in the US for cancer treatment, and it is only about 30 miles away.
