Yes, I'm still around

Damn, it’s been over a month since I last posted here. Well, nothing completely earthshaking has happened to me, and I’m just not very good at making the details of my extremely mundane existence sound even remotely interesting. I would just like to say that -

- I will be going to Germany to visit my brother Ryan in a little over 2 weeks. I will be there for about 3 weeks. This will be the first time that I have ever traveled anywhere outside the US or Canada - "well traveled" is definitely not one of the words that I would immediately choose to describe myself.

- I'm going to go way out on a limb and predict that the media coverage of this year's presidential race will be dominated by intense, in-depth analysis of the crucial issues surrounding the candidates' TV ads, and how negative they are, and whether they are effective or not, and whether it's appropriate for a political ad to use footage of terrorist attacks, and whether Candidate As shocking allegations that Candidate B got a speeding ticket in 1972 are going to hurt candidate Bs campaign.

- I would like to observe that if George W. Bush and his compadres are really trying to choke off dissent and free speech in the US, they are doing a completely horrendous job of it. Bush is vilified by millions of people for being, among other things, an idiot, a bigot, a religious fanatic, the man who "stole the election", a shameless opportunist, a hypocrite, a threat to freedom in America, a man who masterminded the 9/11 attacks himself to provide an excuse for establishing a totalitarian state, an unintelligent nonentity, a spoiled but incompetent rich boy ... etc - and that's just in the US. This isn't to say that Bush is unique in being vilified like this. Let's be honest - Presidents are usually vilified, condemned, and mocked by a decent segment of the population, no matter what their political position on anything is. If free speech was ever to be seriously curbed, I couldn't walk into any bookstore and find books with titles like ...

Murderous Regime: The Secret Plot by Bush and Cheney to Exterminate 100 Million People in Africa, Destroy the Earth's Ecosystem, and Force Everyone to Speak With Texas Accents

Traitorous Bastards: How Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party Plan to Establish a Dictatorship, Outlaw Christianity, and Sell Out the United States to Murderous Communist Cannibals Who Will Serve Americans For the Main Course

OK, I’m exaggerating, but not as much as I would like to be!
