Sure, most people would say that making the meditation room double for a sparring chamber would be, well, weird. Cable was aware of this, even if he didn't agree. It was absolutely logical in a lot of ways if you considered the principles.

But thinking about principles wasn't why he was here right now. He was here because it'd been a while since ( Read more... )

Wade answered that one with an uppercut. "I was born ready and various other cliches of that sort!"

"Sure," Nate replied, blocking it with a quick move of his normal arm. He threw a punch at Wade's head with the other. "If you buy into the advertising..."

Bending back in a way that couldn't be comfortable, Wade pouted at him. "Hey, no bringing up that fridge thing!"

"Fridge thing?" he wondered, shoving a shoulder at Wade's chest while he had the chance.

"Fridge thing--" Which was cheating if you asked Wade. Who retaliated by falling onto his back and rolling back onto his shoulders and then hands in a weird handstand to kick Nate in the chin. "--You know. The writers... C'mon! You were so good at this in the recaps!"

Nate knocked back a couple of paces. Ow. He did hate blows to the chin.

He had his bearings within milliseconds, though. "I'm not going to ask."

Wade was bouncing a little away, bright grin on his face. "You hang out around me enough and it'll aaaall make sense. See, Nate. There are these men with typewriters."

A beat.

"And girls with computers."

"Right..." Nate said, and managed to stuff both 'I've been around you for a long time and all I've learned is not to ask' and 'I'm thinking of something entirely different than the subject at hand, namely how to best square you in the jaw' into that word at the same time.

He was back at Wade on a moment's notice, kicking at his knee.

"LEAVE MY KNEES ALONE!" What was wrong with this place and hating his knees? They were perfectly good joints! Wade took his nearness as an opportunity to backhand the side of Nate's head.

"Could've gone for the ankles," Nate pointed out, and cracked his head back where it was supposed to be. "Always the head..." he said, and punched at Wade's as he spoke.

"It's a nice big target!" Wade said cheerfully as he stumbled to the side. Narrowing his eyes, he looking back and Nate and bodyslammed him. "Ya know, like hitting the broadside of a barn. Which I never really understood. Aren't all the sides broad?"

Nate's body slammed back, but given a couple of ticks he was bracing back, catching himself before he fell and turning that into a neat little counterpunch. Left-handed.

"Front and back," he pointed out. "Important distinction."

"There are four sides, Nate." DUH. "Count 'em! Four!"

Okay, that hurt. Wade headbutted him, trying to break a nose maaaaybe.

"Front and back aren't as broad," he said, dodging to the best of his ability "Nevermind..."

Always trying the nose-breaking.

It was his thing! Don't take that from him, darn it.

"Just admit who the superior barn knower is," Wade said, bounding backwards and out of his reach.

"The Amish?" Nate tried, cracking his neck again to make sure everything was where it belonged.
