He had tried to get rid of them, but not even telekinesis seemed to be able to kill the flickering candles. He'd also tried to move them elsewhere, but it had quickly become obvious that elsewhere was also covered in candles.

So Nathan resigned himself to the fact that (sigh) it was another one of the island's vagaries. At least this way, the island might keep their lights off for a night and hence cut back on power use. Nice for the environment.

It would not, he suspected, help with convincing the radio squirrels that none of this was in even the vaguest sense a date, but he'd live with that. Oprah had done him worse.

So he had the pizza ordered, the TV on, and the beer out-- reading one of his favorite works of the Bard. It was relaxing.
