McAfee is the devil.

Do NOT update virus scan.

It will kill your computer.

If anyone has come across this yet and knows how to fix it, let me know. Hopefully computer will cooperate enough to let me read comments.

ETA: If anyone else needs help with this, point them here.

When you say, don't update virus scan, do you mean that there's a bug in the update or something? What exactly has happened to your computer?

OMG, it was so frustrating. I think I have it fixed now. It was the weirdest thing. I'm paying McAfee to keep my computer safe and they messed it up! Bah! I downloaded their newest update to their virus scan subscription last night, like I'm supposed to when they release these things, and they didn't test it properly, apparently, because all sorts of people had the same problems as me. I thought it was a virus, which I'd never had to deal with before, but it seemed like one because my computer was all bogged down and acting wonky and every time I clicked on my C-drive to see how much available space I had left, the number kept dropping even though I wasn't downloading anything or using up any new space. It was like eating my available space on my hard drive. Thankfully it wasn't permanent. And then it kept giving me notices to put in my WinXP cd to reinstall and all this scary stuff. Totally broke my computer. In order to fix it I had to do a system restore, TWICE, uninstall McAfee, purchase and install Norton antivirus, and a whole ( ... )
