Fandom: Naruto
Timeline: After rookies plan to kill Sasuke, before the war.
Age: 16
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Like most shounen series, characters use an energy that comes within their body to fight; in Naruto, that energy is called ~*chakra*~. Chakra can be used in many different ways, but for the most part it's used for techniques or otherwise known as 'jutsu'. These jutsu usually possess a particular type of nature (wind, water, lightning, fire, earth) in the attack. The Yamanakas (Ino's clan) possess techniques that doesn't automatically fall under one of these five categories. In fact, their nature is only explained as a 'Ninja Art'. The most basic and signature move of Yamanaka clan is called the Shintenshin, however Ino has other notable skills as well.
CLAN TECHNIQUES
Shintenshin no Jutsu: C rank/short to midrange jutsu. It is a mind-affect technique; a jutsu that was primarily used for reconnaissance. The user preforms a ram, a technique specific hand seal, and a bird seal before aiming at their immobile target. The user propels their conscious across the distance into the enemy's body in a line and then takes control of their body for a limited amount of time. If the victim is physcially or mentally strong enough, they are able to push the user out. Otherwise, this jutsu is hard to recover from if successful.
While the user is in the victim's body, their own body becomes vulnerable to attack until the technique is cancelled. If the user misses their target, it takes time before the user's consciousness returns to its own body. This jutsu is usually only able to move in a straight line, the main reason the target has to be still for the technique to succeed. Finally, if any physical injury is inflicted upon the victim's body while the mind-link is active, it would cause the user's body to also receive those same injuries. This can be avoided if user cancels the jutsu before the victim's body receives the damage.
Ino's skill with this jutsu has vastly improved over time. While at first it was a slow moving jutsu for her, she can now successfully complete this jutsu and take over her victim when there's only a brief moment of stillness, as compared to her genin days and needed her teammate to hold them still for a longer period of time. Her skill with timing and cancelling the jutsu effectively is even praised by her father, Inoichi, one of the best Yamanaka clan members. Ino has also overcome one of the jutsu's weakness of only traveling in a straight line and controlling one opponent. During the fourth war, she is seen moving her jutsu in a curved line to take control of two bodies skillfully.
Chakra Sensor: Ino is also a type of ninja who has the ability of detecting the presence of other people through their chakra. A skilled sensor can detect their targets from a great distance but so far, Ino has been shown to only differentiate the characters by their signature chakra alone.
OTHER TECHNIQUES
Medical Ninjutsu (Mystical Palm): A rank/short range jutsu. This jutsu speeds up the body's natural healing process by sending chakra from their hands into the injuries. The medical-nin just preforms a mofified ox seal, and then a tiger seal before applying it to the wounded. This jutsu is incredibly useful on the battlefield with its advantage of treating both external and internal wounds and no need for medical equipment or surgery.
Mystical Palm requires exceptional control over chakra, meaning that Ino is now highly skilled in using her chakra. Injuries can only be healed if the chakra matches the severity of the afflicted part of the body. While Mystical Palm is the easiest method in healing, Ino also has a wide range of knowledge in flowers and plants from working at the Yamanaka shop. This gives her the possible ability to make herbal medicines.
Standard Ninja Techs (clone, transform, replacement, tools): In order to graduate from the academy and become a shinobi, all students in the Academy must learn and master the basic jutsu. Ino was among the top graduating in the academy (tied with Sasuke and Shino) and she could most likely preform these techniques without a problem. Unless she's totally forgot how to use them, then she can probably still preform them just as well as she could in the academy.
Ino isn't a weapons specialist but she can also use basic ninja tools like kunai, shuriken, and explosive tags, etc etc. When it comes to taijutsu, Ino isn't the best but she's strong enough to hold her own for a while.
How would they use their abilities?: DEFENDING HER HONOR! Or something. Well, the shintenshin is mostly used just to protect herself, gain information, or in a fight. Her doctor skills would be used to heal people (duh) if there's ever a need. Overall, she'll be using her skills for what she did in the manga? But never for ill purposes, like being cruel for no reason.
Appearance: Take one look at Ino and you know this girl has confidence. And for a good reason, she's pretty fit as a kunoichi. She wears a short purple top that exposes her tummy and a matching skirt...thing that splits at the front to reveal a shorter black skirt. She likes mesh a lot as she wears it on her elbows, knees, and as shorts to go underneath her skirt ensemble. Her golden hair is long (NOT AS LONG AS KUSHINA'S THOUGH HAH) and reaches her lower back, is pulled up into a pony tail. Her bangs cover her right eye and reach below her chin. Yeah, I don't get it either. A hairclip holds back the hair on the left side.
And she wears standard ninja sandals.
She stands at 5'3½" and weighs 101 lbs. Because all ninjas are short and really skinny for some reason?
Here's a pic! Background/Personality:
Since Ino was young she was always a self-confident, popular, and friendly kunoichi at the Academy. During her time there, she was one of the top students because of her early affinity towards botany because of her family's flower shop.
There was a lot to live up to, being born into an important clan like the Yamanakas, but that just fed her the motivation she needed to become one of the best. However, that isn't the only source of her determination to become a great (and beautiful) kunoichi. Her rivalry with Sakura Haruno pushed her (and still does) so that she couldn't lose to the shy girl she had befriended.
Ino first met Sakura during the Academy, spotting the pink-haired girl crying because some bullies were making fun of her forehead. Instead of joining the teasing, Ino decided to adopt Sakura as a friend and gave her a red ribbon as a gift to help give her more confidence, wanting to help the girl. Ino's relatively bright and outgoing personality encouraged her to make friends instead of try and hide herself from the world, telling her that she was still a bud that needed to bloom. They developed a friendship...until Sasuke came into the picture.
That friendship swiftly changes into a rivalry once Sakura finds out that Ino likes Sasuke too. Once Sakura deems them rivals, Ino uses that rivalry as a drive to do her best and not lose to Sakura to this day. It's a strong basis in most of her desire for self-improvement as she strives to become an excellent kunoichi. But even without their rivalry, Ino is a very stubborn and courageous girl hell-bent on proving herself as one of the best.
Ino finally graduates at the top of the class (just as planned~) alongside Shino and Sasuke and is assigned to Team 10 with Shikamaru Nara and Chouji Akimichi with Asuma Sarutobi as their sensei. Team 10 has the best teamwork over any other team and it's possibly because the Ino-Shika-Cho formation has been passed down through generations, with their fathers being the previous. While at first Ino thought of Shikamaru and Chouji as a lazyass and a fatass (respectively) when they were assigned as a team, she gradually starts to build trust in them. Their teamwork is easily the best among the rookie nine, with Ino's leadership skills and the way she likes to take control, when they enter the Chuunin exams.
Ino really proves herself and her skills during the Chuunin exams. It's the first time we see Ino, jumping on Sasuke and openly flirting with him...in front of Sakura. She appears to be a bit bratty, sticking her tongue out and such and calling Sasuke 'hers' but there's more to her than that. The written test puts Ino's intelligence and quick thinking into play for the first time. Since she knows Sakura would be able to answer all the questions (because of her big forehead and brains) for the difficult written exam , so she uses her Shintenshin to read and copy all her answers for herself and her teammates once she's finished.
The second time Ino appears is attempting to flirt with Neji to get out of a fight during the second test of the Chuunin exam (a survival test)...but failing miserably and then getting pissed about it with her short temper. But the fact that she knows she will lose to someone like Neji and tries to find a way out for her team is contradicted when she jumps out to save Sakura after a long moment of consideration.
Ino is bickering (and fangirling) at Shikamaru about Sasuke's strength when Chouji notices Sakura protecting an unconscious Naruto and Sasuke. At first Ino is frozen in place, thinking about her past friendship with Sakura and confused over what she should do. Eventually her compassion for her old friend wins out over her pride, bitterness, and need to protect herself and her team so they fight off the nins that were attacking Sakura; showing how her concern over comrades outweighs most other things and starts to portray her bravery in the face of danger if it means protecting others.
Of course, this instance is completely forgotten once she's made Sakura's opponent during the preliminary exams. This is her chance to prove that when it comes to the two of them, she won't lose. The rivalry comes back into play although at first Ino is unable to fight Sakura seriously because of their history. Ino still cares for Sakura and sees her as the bud she had been trying to help blossom. It took Sakura goading Ino and using her passion and temper to get her to finally fight Sakura seriously.
Sakura's insults and antagonizing might have made it seem like Ino lost it, as she cut her hair and threw it on the ground to prove she didn't need long hair to make Sasuke like her, but it was just a ruse. Ino's perception and resourcefulness had overcome her justu's weakness by using her newly chopped hair to create a chakra rope, binding Sakura still so she could take over her body and make her forfeit the match, allowing Ino to win.
It was only because Sakura had a second mind, an 'Inner Sakura, that the two had tied. If it hadn't been for that, Ino would have won the match. The loss hits her hard but despite that she's glad that Sakura has finally bloomed into a real kunoichi, and the two reconcile their lost friendship slightly. Though they still fight over Sasuke plenty, and they promise a rematch at some point; neither satisfied with the tie.
Although both girls are eliminated from the exam, Ino appears to support her team by shouting excitedly, bright spirit not in the least dampened.
Ino makes a few appearances after that; the first is to attend the final part of the Chuunin exam to watch the final match tournament. Here, she still shouts for those she supports and praises those that did well, like Sakura's team after Naruto defeats Neji. She's especially enthusiastic once Shikamaru's match starts, expressing an inner pride for her team and her belief in them.
The most effective tool a ninja can use is a mask, hiding their emotions if you will. A lot of ninjas have trouble with this, and Ino is no different especially when it comes to comrades. When Chouji is put into the hospital after the Sasuke retrieval mission, Ino is seen sighing visibly in relief once she's told that he would be fine. She is also the first one to run to him while he was injured.
At first Ino is seen as annoying, bratty, and Sasuke-obsessed but it's clear there's more to her than that. During part one, the nice girl that Ino Yamanaka undoubtedly is comes to light slowly, despite her few flaws. And while a ninja she is most definitely a girl as well; going on diets, enjoying shopping, and holding her feminine charm.
The two year time-skip Ino trained hard, in no way willing to get left behind and wanting to be able to protect her team. Her self-motivation and stubbornness (and unwillingness to lose to Sakura) gave her the ability to master medical-ninjutsu and perfect her other techniques to create a formidable shinobi, while also maintaining her appeal and ~*maiden's heart*~.
This ~*maiden's heart*~ is in full force when she is openly friendly (borderline flirty) with Sai, whom she thinks is a Sasuke look-alike, upon meeting during the second part of the manga. Much to the chagrin of Sakura, Sai calls Ino 'Ms. Beautiful' causing her to blush and she witnesses Sakura beating the shit out of Sai and raging about him calling her ugly while Ino was beautiful.
So even if Ino is a very self-confident girl that believes in herself, she is just as easy flattered over compliments as any other girl. Especially from those she views as attractive.
Although the Chuunin exams was a great source of development, it's not long before Ino gets her second helping in the death of her sensei. She meets Shikamaru as backup with Chouji but they arrive too late. No matter how hard Ino tries, saving her sensei is deemed impossible. Asuma gives Ino his last words of advice, praising her for her confidence and how she knows how to take care of herself. He entrusts Ino to take care of Shikamaru and Chouji and then tells her not to lose to Sakura; in ninjutsu or in love.
Ino promises among tears and ever since then is determined to put her life on the line to protect her teammates, no matter what. While the death of a sensei is harsh for Ino, she uses it as a reminder to not let any other teammates die and matures her greatly. Being a ninja means death is common, but that makes it no easier as she cries out in grief over her lost sensei when he finally slips away.
The sadness is so great, that Ino turns to avenging her sensei with Shikamaru and Chouji. They begin their quest (with Kakashi) to find the Akatsuki that ended his life. During this time, Ino mostly stands by and waits as support because her Shintenshin puts her at too much risk. However one point she rescues Chouji, saving his life from a fatal blow but getting choked in the process by taking the hit. When they need a volunteer to distract one of their enemies, Ino immediately volunteers herself bravely despite this being the person that was able to end her sensei's life.
Eventually they avenge Asuma and kill the two Akatsuki, with the help of Naruto and Ino heals him afterwards.
When Pein begins his invasion, Ino runs to her father to report the attack. She has the ability to think clearly and responsibly even during absolute chaos. Once Pein's identity finally comes to light to those present with Ino, they try to flee from capture but Shizune is taken and eventually killed. Ino cries over her death of a close friend and attempts to revive Shizune but there's nothing to be done; much like her experience with Asuma. But once everyone is brought back to life with Nagato's death-defying jutsu, she was shocked to see that Shizune is living and breathing again.
She was then present at Naruto's return and celebrated with the villagers for his victory. His victory affects her so much that she says that she could almost fall for Naruto (because of his new 'cool guy' status, she's into those guys), surprising Chouji and Shikamaru. And most of the fandom.
News of Sasuke affiliation finally reaches Konoha, and Ino's generation make a decision; Sasuke has to die and they have to do it. The action they decide to take causes Ino to cry, even if Sasuke is a criminal she still cares for him and doesn't want to kill him. It's the only way, she knows, but Sasuke was still someone she had feelings for (or still does).
While not necessarily just a bratty Sasuke-fangirl anymore, Ino still retains a lot of her old qualities. She's proved her growth over the course of the series and slowly developed herself as a character with a stubborn yet bright personality. She possesses a wit and sense that are above others and a leadership persona in every situation and at times of emergencies, she puts her teammates first.

1st person sample:
[Hello fellow S.S Thorians, today your Guide is interrupted by the face of a rather pretty girl. She looks mostly harmless, but you should know by now that nothing is as it seems. Her face is in a hard line as she studies the Guide, and then she realizes she's recording.]
Okay, I'm dreaming! That's it, because that's seriously the only, logical explanation to all of this. So I'm just going to pinch myself and I'll wake up in my tent in Konoha.
[A hand reaches down and pinches her arm. Aaaand she's still here. She's not expecting that. She probably didn't pinch hard enough so she does so, enough to make herself wince.]
Ow!
[Why is she still here?]
...Alright, can somebody please tell me what's going on here? And I'd appreciate it if it actually made sense, thank you~! [Hopefully it's not one of those ugly, paperwork guys either.]
3rd person sample:
What the hell was she supposed to do with this anyway? Ino wonders, staring down at the towel in her hands with a blank stare. Really, there were more useful things to be just giving out. Like money or something (so she could offer it in return for information) and her mind idly wanders to the possibility of any shopping centres at this place.
No, no! First and foremost, she has to figure out how she got here and how she was supposed to get home. As nice as shopping was, Ino knew her priorities lay somewhere else. Besides, she highly doubts a place like this had anything that was remotely close to her taste, judging by the outfits worn by some of the...things around here.
Aliens.
This is either a ridiculous genjutsu or a dream, she decides. The latter seems more probable (because who the hell could think up this lame place?) so she picks up the weird book that had been given to her and dedicates this time to figuring out how it works. It was worth a shot, wasn't it? If this was real (a fact that she still doesn't really believe, at all) then somebody has to know what is going on around here, right?
Her dream people better be more helpful than that Vogon. All he told her to do was fill out some stupid papers!
Now she just had to figure out how to use the damn thing...
Questions?: Will you come flying with me?
