for a week there we wore our pants cut off or rolled up skivvy, and then the storms and fogs set in. for a few days the temperature dropped pretty steady, and then, two days ago, somebody said the word snow.
then yesterday had that feeling like a holiday, with everyone home dressed warmly, bo and i in the kitchen making chili and other goodies, basil secluded in his room, watching thoughts drift in his mind, and an all-pervasive knowledge that outside you could smell it - snow was coming. the smell was so strong when you stepped outside that you carried it in with you on your clothes and your hair when you returned.
last night while i slept and dreamt of meeting places, i would stir and turn and face the moon, bright face and full, and drifting quick across, clouds like you only ever see in movies. spooky and cold outside, i was warm and covered and kept content.
i got up earlier today than i did yesterday, thank god, to the knowledge that dear Kat was calling through, and donned some clothes hastily and ran downstairs and saw it...
snow.
in late april, our blessed last snow. and i thought for a snip there i shouldn't be able to say farewell to it for the year, and farewell to the winter stars and frost...
but i was happily mistaken.
curled up in winter sweater in this weather couldn't be better...
