I just sent a whole bunch of american greeting cards e-cards to my niece (well, only the free ones), who turns 12 today and is as tall as i am (5'5"--my bro is tall). she loves soccer and all kinds of dancing (ballet, tap, jazz), and longs for a dog to join the two cats her family has. oh-- i also sent her a gift certificate for amazon. here are the e-cards, accompanied by what i typed in to "personalize" each e-card....

If they can work their way up from average Midwestern Beans...
You can reach your goals, too!]
Dear R----,
You, my dear, are anything but average. Who'd'a THUNK that you'd share your birthday with the world-famous "Great Northern Beans Day," May 9th? Not I, that's for sure! Enjoy your day, and may you have many, many, many more!
Love,
S---

--Well, at least your birthday isn't on "Chair Day." That wouldn't make sense for a dancer like you.

And THANK GOODNESS your birthday's not on 5/2, which is known as "Smelly People Day." (At least, this seems to be the case in the universe of the American Greeting Cards Corporation--and maybe there only. Incidentally, American Greeting Cards is also the creator of "Chair Day," May 11.)
But actually, ya know, it really would be OK if your birthday was on smelly people day, because ya know, smelly people are people too, and you are/would be a special person regardless. And as we know, smell is in the nose of the smeller. Ask any dog.

For each of these lovely bits of electronic harrassment, I have received the following dutifully sent american greetings autoreply:
Thanks for trusting AmericanGreetings.com on MSN to send your eCard. If you've got something to say, we've got an eCard to help you say it with style.
Following is a link to the eCard you sent to

Meant to have this next one sent to fflo on May 24, but I don't think there was any mechanism to electonically hold the date of delivery.
[If you click on this pic, you can see its .gif action: The ball park lights up and the stands fill with people, and you see the words "PLAY BALL!"]
According to the American Greeting Card Corp., it's Night Baseball Day (Night)! Party down, ff'lo!
xxoo

Anyway, I'm sure fflo will want to begin celebrating early. And I'm interested to learn that the first night baseball game was played in Cincinnati. I'm sure
cincyexpat will be interested as well-- or else he already
knows? "Night Baseball Day"--is that an oxymoron, or just confusing, or does the party go til the next day?
