Fortunately, the goop you drank (and it's bloody awful, I know) isn't radioactive. Contains a ton of iodine (unless you got the new, low osmolarity stuff) and is a little rough on your kidneys, but not radioactive (and young healthy kidneys clean it up, no sweat).

What's funny is that somebody just published a study suggesting antibiotics are just as good for uncomplicated appendicitis as surgery. Not that most people believe that, even after the study, but that's what the statistics showed.

The stuff I drank actually just tastes like slightly sweetened ice water. The worst part about it was that after being unable to keep anything down all day I was afraid I'd drink the whole cup and then puke it back up so had to drink really slowly.

Interesting study, though I was on potent antibiotics before the surgery and they seemed to do absolutely nothing.

Lucky you. Everybody I've ever fed that stuff to hated it passionately. Vomiting it up is a real concern, though.

And of course I misread your first post somehow and thought you were getting IV rather than oral contrast. The oral stuff literally goes right through you. No absorbtion, no nothing (Sorta has to, given what it's for). So no worries on the kidney front. Next time, I won't post right before call.
