I hope everyone enjoyed their excursions home as much as I did. I've got some supplies and some proper equipment now, so that should make things a bit easier for all of us. Not going to tell you all what, though - those are secrets for me and miss Liechtenstein ( Read more... )

Yeah, it seems to be the punishment for not redeeming yourself before new years.

[he switches the feed onto video to display the symptoms.

And what a sight..he looks as though he's sat in the arctic. He's shivering uncontrollably, teeth chattering, a slight blue hue to his skin and looks utterly miserable.]

And if you're tired you should sleep. Be thankful you can when some people suffer insomnia. [he adds sagely.]

Redeeming yourself for what? Is this a normal thing for Christmas? [Altair isn't familiar enough with your silly holidays to know if this is normal or not.]

Well the effects aren't. But The coal symbolised people who'd done something bad. I guess we had to make up for that bad thing before new year.

But with regards to this being normal - no. I don't think so, this is just the ghosts' idea of normal though, obviously.

... that's an awfully specific supposition. [Once again, Altair stares at the camera curiously, a little bit suspiciously. What is it with people here and making these oddly specific guesses about things?

He's convinced some of them might be in league with the ghosts. He wouldn't put it past them.]

Considering I used to work for the military and conduct a lot of my own investigations in my home world - that seems like a pretty sturdy link to me to be honest.

[Shiki just raises his eyebrows, his tone painfully blasé. In league with the ghosts? Pfft, he would rather kill them all on sight. But no, he just likes to piece things together quickly and be in the know otherwise he gets unsettled. Very unsettled.]

It's a hell of a jump from "the coal and the cold are linked" to "people must have needed to atone for their sins or they'd end up cursed with supernatural cold and the coal was a sign of that".

[He narrows his eyes slightly at the camera. No, that's definitely distrust in his eyes.]

[Shiki just raises an eyebrow back at him. He's seen that expression enough to know it when he's faced with it.]

Doesn't it seem like a logical connection though?

Then an investigator you are not.

You either made that up, or you're with the ghosts, because there's no information that would lead to that. We know there's a link between the coal and the cold. I don't know how you get from the coal being linked to the cold to "people must need to atone for their sins"?

I mean correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the one person we have who would fit your logic - Fierce Deity - sat down and decided that he needed to "atone for his sins". (Do correct me if I'm wrong, though.)

So really, I don't know where you're getting this from, especially when it can just as easily be explained by "ghosts are fucking dicks who wanted to warn people before freezing the shit out of them".

Maybe it's different for each person. But when I got my lump of coal I know I'd done something shitty I had to try and make up for.

So call it gut instinct but you know generally when do do something that fucks someone over the right thing to do is to try and atone for it right? Or am I the only person here with an actual sense of what's right and wrong?

[His tone is highly aggressive and sounds similar to that of a roar. He doesn't like people making assumptions like that about him. Let alone when he's pretty sure he's right.]

... I think the ghosts are in your head, because nobody else seems to have gotten this psychic flash of insight you did. Nobody else seems to have deduced that the coal was a sign that people needed to make up for things, because there was nothing that would indicate that.

At all.

I'm sorry we all aren't quite as in tune with the ghosts as you appear to be.

[That's not really helping Altair, who's getting more and more frustrated and untrusting of Shiki, practically glaring at the camera.]

Psychic? [he just laughs bitterly] It's just called going with what you were taught was the right thing.

Besides, I only figured that was the case when I got the chills. I figured initially that the coal was just saying you did something stupid. I tried to make up for what I did and it seems it wasn't enough.

[He sounds a little more guilty about things. Yes, wat he did to Mika was the stupidest thing he could have done. Just another of his flaws to add to the list.]

... you figured you must have been supposed to atone for your sins because that's clearly what a hunk of coal meant after you ended up getting cold and--

What?

I only put together the supposition we were supposed to have made up for things when I got the chills. When I first got the coal I thought it just meant you'd been a douche.

Now does that make a little more sense?

Re: [voice] spreadbare January 3 2010, 20:22:46 UTC
It doesn't because there's no reason to go from "a sign of being a bad person" to "if you don't make up for that you'll be cursed with cold".

None.

Unless the ghosts are whispering things in your ears they're not telling the rest of us. You're either insane or with them, and I don't want to tell either type of person anything else about what I think is going on.

[Dead air. He's closed the connection.]
