Well, I can see that- he's been mother and father to Sam since the age of four!
I can't help feeling that there's this hint you give that poor Dean has one more person in his life who loves Sam more than him. Okay, that's not fair, but I definitely get that sense from that scene where Ava comforts Sam- that he loves Sarah, cares for Ava but LOVES Sarah, and she loves Dean but LOVES Sam- if that makes any sense.
Please don't respond to that- I don't want you to feel pressured to foreshadow what you want to write...
But there's this part of me that thinks- wow, one more person to walk out on Dean!!! I mean, Sam did it once, his mom died, his dad left AND died, his kids will all leave to some extent, and even Ava. It's like he's gonna be alone in the end anyway, because even though Sam will always be there, he's got his own family...
Anyway, great, wonderful series. I have to admit it took this update to make me go back and reread the parts where you kill off Sam's daughter- I was going through a personal black period and couldn't read it until it felt like they were on a little more even keel. Just wanted to say, I've dealt with grieving families, my mom's godson died when he was a kid, and you captured the way things seemed then VERY well.

Thank you...I did try really hard to capture the unique feel of a family in crisis, in mourning.
And I know what you mean, about Dean never being on the receiving end, always coming second to Sam, or at least that's how it seems. I hate that. And I'm not gonna say that it doesn't play into the story here AT ALL, but I promise, in this situation Dean will hold many of the cards. He's been abandoned too much in his life, and, in part because of that fact, he's gonna take control this time.
