As I understand from anyone who has taken an intro level philosophy class it is inevitable that religion will be discussed...today's conversation was is heaven real, good vs. evil etc...
That's enough preamble for my entire purpose to post. Today someone was questioning the devil's existence and if God was all powerful and created all why can't he destroy the devil, bla bla bla is what I was thinking most of the class period until this golden nugget happened.
One of the very few religious people in my class, this particular one being Christian of course, got really pissed off by the previous statement/question and busted out loudly and belligerantly, "You wouldn't understand because you are not saved!" It was glorious, amusing, and odd because she said it with such conviction it sounded as if she was insinuating that she did understand because she was saved...Now I didn't find it funny because of how I feel about religion, I found it funny someone let an intro to philosophy class discussion get that far under their skin...and maybe a little bit about how I feel about religion of today (with emphasis on the word today).
Oh well, it was bound to happen, this particular class seems pretty hellbent on discussing the most offensive current events and lifestyles...I'll keep everyone updated on this class and maybe I'll share more stories, there are some great nuggets every class period, but this one was amazing.
And here's a cool page about and article I just saw on PBS...
