i have reached london safe and sound. we arrived friday morning and spent the last few days being tourists-- we saw westminster abbey (the outside), the tower of london, millennium bridge, portobello road, uncle mick's old house in notting hill, etcetera. discussed the old days growing up in ireland one night, turned down an ultra creepy cousin's wishes to keep up with his pint-every-10-minutes drinking another night, and met up with dad's bland boss and his wife in a quaint irish pub just off oxford street last night. michael and i saw dad off at heathrow this afternoon and i spent the rest of the day re-packing everything i had thrown in my suitcase the night before i flew out of san diego. now i am leeching off the wireless signal from some unknown neighbor here in chiswick park. tomorrow is the big day-- taking the tube (i'm already a semi-pro) to the holburn station, getting my key at the teaching facilities and taking a trip back to the chiswick house to gather my belongings to finally move into my new flat.

london is lovely, though i can't say i'm a fan of the pouring rain one minute then sun shining and 70 degrees the next minute weather i've seen so far. i can tell winter is not far off. the city is so multi-cultural and vibrant; i love walking down oxford street and hearing each person speak a different language. the underground can be quite crowded but is very efficient. there have been a lot of tourists recently due to the hot weather in other european countries, i'm told, but i can't complain because i still feel like i'm one of them. i can't wait to go inside the british museum with my history class (scotti, you will die-- there are several wings of ancient egyptian artifacts) or watch a live shakespeare performance with my shakespearean drama class. there are so many sites to see and things to do in this city, i don't know where to begin.

lots of love from london.
