Hey kids. You may have noticed I fell off planet LiveJournal (among other planetary bodies) about a month and a half ago. At this point, you may have a few personal questions, so instead of a proper journal, I’m just going to field what I imagine your questions may be.
Are you dead?
No.
Did you get my voicemail/e-mail/lj mail/text message/telegraph/passenger pigeon relay?
Yes. I’m not ignoring you. Well, I am, but not in a bad way.
So what the hell is up?
In a word:
Kitefliers.
All the time?
Well, the two nights a week I haven’t been in rehearsal, I’ve probably been spending time with the Girl.
There’s a girl?
Yep. Been one for about two and a half months. Her official lj name is hereafter “E.”
How’s it going?
Pretty well, actually. She’s not only been remarkably patient and supportive during Kitefliers, but she’s genuinely fascinated by the whole process. (No, she’s not a theater person, which is a nice change.)
So, how’s Kitefliers?
To coin a phrase that
splattworld used, it’s sailing. Seriously. It is not an easy show to produce, but everyone has pulled together in amazing ways for it. It’s come together so well, not just from an original works perspective, but from an overall Jobsite production perspective. On one hand, I wake up, live, go to bed, and dream about Kitefliers, so part of me will be glad when it’s on its feet. On the other hand, this whole production has redefined preparation. Finishing the draft and going into workshops from 20 months ago certainly helped.
trufflesfl has had every aspect of this on her brain since then, as well as myself,
gonzonia,
maladr1n and countless others. Rehearsals were basically a week ahead of schedule, and because of all the backstage preparation, phone calls, etc., we’ve been able to encounter the normal (and abnormal) obstacles with a new found grace.
This is not any one person’s show, and everyone has worn new and multiple hats to make the show what it is. Everyone in the production has risen to new levels of professionalism to the point of personally ensuring that this show is great. For once, my opening night goal is not so much surviving to Act 3 at the Hub, but the looks on faces when the curtain rises and falls.
We’re all tired, we’re all stressed, we’re all beat. But we’re rounding third base, and something tells me when we hit home, it’s going to be for a grand slam. We’re going to surprise ourselves. No one’s seen a Jobsite production like this, and it’s going to be fucking cool.
While I’m at it, special thanks to (in no specific order)
actorkat,
maxmatahari,
tampafats,
serialthrilla13,
broadwater,
littledorrit,
mollyq and
chimchim7 for any and all work you’ve provided to the process. Your fingerprints are indelibly and gratefully on this work. There are obviously others to thank, but those above are the lj peeps. For a whole list, come to the show and read the program.
What’s so great about this show?
The show applies to everyone really, so anyone can enjoy it and get something from it. What’s unique about it is that it targets a mid 20-30’s audience. Best of luck finding theater (or film) that does that. And the show is pee-your-pants funny. If you don’t personally wet yourself watching this show, I will guarantee that someone from the cast/crew will gladly wet your pants for you.
So what exactly are you doing in the show?
Oh, I co-wrote it with
gonzonia, and I play one of the leads. I’ve also been bugging the shit out of
trufflesfl on a daily basis, if you can call that a job. Oh yeah, and I designed the Kitefliers
web pages, and I made that tasty .gif that has spread virally better than I could have hoped. BTW, thank you everyone for spreading/posting that. You know who you are.
What tasty .gif?

Anything I can do to help?
Spread the word for people to see the show this Sunday. We’re close to sold out for Aug. 5 & 6, but we really need an audience for this Sunday. Please tell everyone you know. If we can pack all three nights on this, that would help support the rest of the run very well. But we need people on Sunday for that to happen.
I have another question.
That’s what the little “Leave a comment” doobie is for.
The short answer:
