So, I saw an interesting bumper sticker yesterday as I made my 1,000 mile drive to South Carolina. Somewhere in North Carolina (how appropriate) was a sticker that said "Body piercing saved my life." At first glance, I was thinking, this guy must be pierced like no other, but then I noticed the picture accompanying the slogan. A man (apparantly Jesus) nailed to a cross. Quite a piercing, huh? I saw that and it just got me thinking about everything from religion to people's differences. It's funny, how someone can view that event (or myth, depending on how you view things) as body piercing, but then look at someone who is actually pierced and consider them to be a freak. I once dated a guy with a 0-gauge hoop through his septum, and the looks that he got disgusted me. These people who were so quick to judge this guy did not know him. They were not aware of the kindness and openmindedness of his personality. To pass judgements on anyone without getting to know them is wrong, yet these God loving people who judge anyone who is different from them do so everyday. I am not a hugely religious person, but I do believe in God, and I always thought that we are all the same in the eyes of God. People who judge others do not know anything about these people. What if my ex-boyfriend was the guy driving that truck I saw yesterday with the sticker, "Body piercing saved my life." ???? Just something to ponder...
