Kathy and I have succesfully made about 50 (400?) vegetarian tamales. I thought it would be hard to make them, but it was just time consuming. I'd been intimidated for no reason! It was good to have someone here to try it out with though, and Kathy had made them once before in cooking class.
Earlier today we rode the Rail Runner train to Santa Fe. You can get a round trip from here for $5 on Saturday! It was cheap and fun.
While there we went to the Santa Fe farmers market, where a guy was selling "refugee iris" - 4-5 plants in a grocery bag for $2. I bought 5 then he threw in two more. This was great except I was lugging around a 30 lb bag of iris and dirt. This made our Santa Fe trip a bit shorter than it might have been under other circumstances.
There was still a lot of snow on the ground at the higher elevations.
Gosh I'm tired and I still have to deal with the tamales.
