so I just mad that large post which was the condensed version of the past 3 months. So of course, what happens? One day of epic stupidity.
The line reads "customer states dash lights are inop"
Right off I'm thinking they turned their dimmer switch all the way off. So I get in the car and the dimmer switch is all the way off. I can't see the dash lights in broad daylight so i bring the car inside where I flick on the dimmer switch and the dash lights come right on. I pull the car out immediately and park it. I get no time for that. Your stupidity wastes my time. I had been warned people do that from time to time and it finally happened. Jesse said that was the quickest he'd ever seen a car come in and get sent out. to which Jeff replied "unlike you, Steve is good at diagnosis."
The next car (2004 C70 with 13,100 miles) had five line.
customer states front suspension feels stiff.
customer states climate control is not working fast enough
customer states rubbing noise when turning the wheel all the way left or right
check transmission
LOF
The whole shop heard my 'phill sigh' I go up front for clarification on the check transmission line. Rich the service writer clues me in.
The first line is her husband driving the car and not being used to a convertible suspension or ride, this was a cloth top c70... they have been described as archaic.
the second line, I found later, was the fresh air vent was wide open. air conditioning doesn't work when 80 degree air is blowing in and heat doesn't work when 50 degree air is blowing in. Good job.
the rubbing noise was a legitimate concern having to do with lubricating the suspension, so i did that, it took 2 seconds.
the transmission line is the best, rich says. The guy who details the cars says the transmission need to be looked at. That's all the info. So I basically ignored that line.
then an oil change.
so rich explains all this to me, then he says. "Drive the car and write up good stories for all these concerns, I'm basically paying you for the oil change and a 1 hour diag to tell her the car is fine. The was good rich, not to be confused with bad rich. Good Rich is good. I felt better after the dimmer switch lady. I was tired of wasting time. At least I got paid to do it this time.
