- 20th November 1947 - Princess Elizabeth marries Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at Westminster Abbey. The couple first met in 1934, and in 1939, after a meeting at the Royal Naval College, a 13-year-old Elizabeth said that she fell in love with Philip and they began to exchange letters. Philip was at the time Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, however he renounced those titles prior to the marriage, and took his mother’s maiden name, Mountbatten. Due to the war, Elizabeth needed ration coupons to buy the material for her gown, and Philip’s three sisters were not invited due to their connections with Germany. This year is their 65th Wedding Anniversary.
I love how happy she looks!
