I'm dead tired. Got home so late today my parents were asleep already.. Unfortunately I still had to wake my parents after I got home because, 1. my mom would scream at me at not annoucing my 'return'; and 2. I realise I had forgotten the combination to the house alarm system, so I needed to get my dad to set the alarm for the night.. >_<
Long day.. started by going to the temples and risked being disfigured by the annoying 'aunties' who have the habit of sticking their joss-sticks at the wrong places (i.e. in other people's face). won't go into detail because.. there isn't much to say. I would have brought up an issue which annoyed me greatly when I was praying at the temple in Geylang, but uhh, I'll not risk being called racist. *bah*
Afternoon was spent at this wonderful restaurant cum microbrewery place at Boat Quay called "Brewerkz".. fantastic place! The atmosphere was wonderful for a relaxing afternoon of beer-drinking and chit-chatting.. PLUS, they have good absolutely fantabulous food and good beer (yeps, much smoother and nicer than stuff like Tiger Beer).. And, the service at the place was impeccable. I was so impressed by the waitress serving us. Compared to the usual service you get at other restaurants, this is like.. in heaven. Of course, it helped that she was pretty cute too (erh, so I have a habit of bio2-ing people. can't help it. result of too many years in NY :-p)
So, I was trying my best not to drink too much since I have a dinner cum movie date with
nutty_elf and I didn't want to fall asleep during the movie or something, but the minute my uncle heard I was 'of legal age', he was happily pushing drinks in my direction (much to the dismay of my mom, I could say). Oh well, don't worry, I made it to the movie date.. ^^ [off-note,
ariebeth, eh.. you should ask 'him' to bring you there when you get back to Singapore!]
Anyways, highlight of the day.. evening time! Ate dinner at Marche (ahh.. my poor purse :< ).. I love that place! Good food, albeit a little rush. Then it was Harry Potter and tPoA at 7.. the movie was alright I guess. The effects were really good, but overall, the movie left quite a bit to be desired. Might be due to the fact that I had my hopes very high after the first 2 movies, but shrugs..
Likes:
1. Marauder's Map was wayyyyy cool!
2. Emma/Hermoine was pretty.. ^^
3. Sirius Black! *squee*
4. The effects... way cool!
5. Hermoine/Ron 'suggestive' thingie.. rofl
6. Knight Bus!
Dislikes:
1. Didn't explain who "padfoot & co." from the map was and how come Lupin knows how to use it
2. Little quidditch! It's only 2hr 10 minutes long! Could've worked in a couple of minutes more of quidditch! *wants Oliver Wood*
3. So little of Draco! And so much Harry! *pouts*
4. The werewolf (Lupin) is ugly.
5. No climax, the show just.. went on
6. The way Draco was portrayed to be so sissified.. (i.e. the Hermoine-point-wand scene..) So not the Draco image I get in the book.
General Stuff:
- I didn't quite like the way they portrayed the Dementors.. not really omnious or mysterious enough for me.. didn't really quite have the 'feel' I got when reading the book.
- The opening scenes were a little too fast. I guess they were assuming that everyone who is watching the movie would've read the book already, because there were some holes which i felt they just let the audience fill up themselves.
-- There were far too many plot holes which a person who hasn't read the book wouldn't have understood. For one, I felt it was a pity that there was absolutely no mention about the full moon which appeared when Lupin faced the Boggart. I thought that part of the book was actually rather brilliant, but there was no reference to it at all. Hermoine only said that she knew Lupin was a werewolve after doing the report Prof Snape made them do. :(
- For all the hyper the new director got and all the good reviews about the direction of the movie, I wasn't particularly impressed. In fact, there were certain scenes which I felt really needed improvement.
- Seems to skim through the story only. I wouldn't have minded a longer movie which went into greater depth of the book.
And now, I suddenly feel like reading all the HP books all over again.. O.o Except for a slight problem, I don't own any of the books in the series except for the first and fifth book.. *sheesh*
