Looked this up again because our new electric meters send information through the phone line. You can get an hour by hour graph of your electric usage. Apparently it might only cost about $5000 to (legally) never have an electric bill again. Used to be too expensive to even consider it. South roof gets full sun all day. Cheap 45 watt panel system ( Read more... )

I think I might have to sell off my vital organs to come up with a pocket full of cash so that I might hop a plane to SpotVille, catch a taxi to your house, walk to the front door, ring the bell and wait for you to answer, where as I would then proceed to slap you across the strong and oh so powerfully chiseled jaw AND without saying a word to you- turn on my heals, get back into my waiting taxi cab, back on the airplane to Sharessafornia, and return to my secret villainess's skull shaped cave --IF you are trying to tell me in this post that you are thinking about purchasing solar panels for your roof.

I not only hate the way these sales people stalk me but I did having worked for "Pest control" prior to this job, I can tell you that there are some unforeseen Cons to them.

A: They are instant pigeon and crow attracters. I used to live in a nice peaceful neighborhood where small birds sang beautiful songs in the morning as I sat on my patio sipping coffee and reading the post.. now I live in an insane asylum with the never ending sound of cooing pigeons and squawking crows. The neighbos got those panels and the birds just LOVE to look at their own reflection as well as bath in the warmth bouncing off of the glass.
B: Pigeon poop.
C. What the solar company's fail to tell you is that birds love the warmth the panels constant keep in so much that they burrow under the panels in the small open area and make nest... and often DIE under the panels because they cook themselves.

Please for the love of... well- ME :) do NOT get those panels.

Probably won't... we don't get anyone trying to sell us panels here. Don't even see them advertised. People don't even think about it. I was just looking at our usage vs what the panels could do. I can spend the next 30-40 years blindly paying an electric bill or I can spend $5,000 once. Seems stupid not to at least consider it. Electric company might end up paying my water bill.

I know what you mean about the birds. Haven't seen as many the last few years. We used to get them stuck in our soffit.
