I think it is a habit of nearly all people, to take for granted where they live - at least their immediate area; like when you drive down your street one day and actually look at the houses and realized you hadn't really seen them in forever.
Since I am not always able to drive to downtown when I'm wanting to be surrounded by the city I decided to explore a little further the downtown portion of Everett - the first place that I worked when I moved here. And of course I was pleasantly surprised. I found easy street parking (something that never happens in downtown Seattle) that was conveniently located next to a coffee shop and I had not yet satisfied my morning caffine fix so I made my first stop at Zippy's.
Zippy's immediately struck me as an artist's hideaway. Local art was covering the walls, a small bookshelf in the corner for those suffering from book lust and a perfect little sitting area near the window with old comfy couches and a giant mirror reflecting the light of the morning. I felt very much at home and was already satisfied with my trip to Everett.
I ordered what they posted as their signiature drink the smores mocha and nestled into the sitting area to read and work on my resume. When the owner brought over my coffee, which can only be described as happiness in a mug, she was followed by Zippy the dalmation who snuggled up on the couch with me. After I had finished by chocolaty coffee with bruleed marshmallow and graham cracker sprinkles on top I finally pried myself out of my cozy chair to experience a little more of downtown.
A trip to an antique shop full of treasures I would love to put in my house, a stop at J. Matheson home and gifts and a wine tasting at Wicked Cellars rounded out the afternoon. A wonderful relaxing yet eventful afternoon that made me want to spend more time in my own little city. Of course now my "list" is only getting longer rather than shorter.
