Ann Arbor Anarchy (with some Madness thrown in)
ok so the morning/daytime was boring. so let's fast forward till about 9:00. me, stevie p, rohit, ibrahim, and dan field all headed off towards the michigan union so that we could board the bus for meijer MADNESS. but when we got there, it was basically a crowd of 300 people shoving back and forth to get onto a bus. with some guy on a megaphone behind us yelling "don't push and don't shove! there're plenty of buses!" we pushed and shoved our way onto the next bus, along with about 80 other people (i honestly think that bus held more people than live in my dorm). so we made the kinda long trip uncomfortably close to each other to meijer. but that was ok cuz when we got there, FREE SHOTS! (of energy drinks, don't worry.) so we get inside and start walkin around... there wasn't a whole lot of free stuff or anything inside, but we were kinda hyper and started looking at ridiculous things to buy. for example: we tried convincing dan to buy something to hang on his wall like a rake, a toilet plunger, and other oddities. ibrahim almost bought a kiddie pool for like 5 bucks to put on the roof outside his window which, in my opinion, would have been awesome. but anyway, no one actually bought this stuff which was a bummer. i also almost bought a 'for sale' sign for my door, but i forgot to pick it up later in the night...
so after meijer, we took the bus to target where we each got, literally, 8 bottles of coca cola. we walked around there for a bit, but the only thing i was looking to buy is apparently only online, so we bought some 'simply lemonade' and left. there was supposed to be a bus right from target to the union, but it was takign forever, so we took a bus back to meijer (and got to ride it alone) cuz we knew there was a bus from meijer to the union. but that like 4 minute bus ride back to meijer was SCARY. our bus driver was freaking crazy and almost hit 2 cars and the side of meijers. like there was literally about 6 inches of clearance between his bus and the store. so we quickly left that death trap and boarded the bus back to the union. it was about 12:30 by this point, and little did we know, the night was still young.
we were in the mood for some billiards, but playing at the union costs money, so we headed to south quad first to check the basement. the front desk was closed though, so we couldn't get pool cues and stuff. so instead we went to see ibrahim's RA cuz she had 1/2 off coupons for billiards at the union (it costs like $2.00 to play). by the time we got there and got the coupons, it was about 1, and the union closes at 1:30. boo. so we decided we'd walk around. we walked down state street and saw caitlin! so we said hi, and then she left to go to a party, so we kept walking, and observing the heavily intoxicated people (one girl had to hold on to her friend for dear life and even so, she almost fell over anyway.. like 5 times). so we walked down to about.. yost ice arena, and turned back around, and walked past a couple hopping frat parties (maybe not hopping...so much as stumbling?) shortly after which some guy and his friend walked up to us and offered us shrooms. "hey you guys wanna eat some mushrooms? you should eat some mushrooms. you're only freshmen once, right? so come get some mushrooms!" so, we declined, and he accused us of being 'fags' and kept walking. so we thought that was pretty funny, and kept walking up state street, where we ran into mona, and a couple of her friends so we talked with them for some time. and then, shrooms guy came back! so he again offers us some, i, getting kinda annoyed at him, just shouted something like "just keep walking, we don't want your crap" and he called us fags again, and left. and then these drunks guys came up to us and like obnoxiously walked through our group and was like "whats up? whats up? whats up?" to the three girls and then like.. started fist-pounding his friends (cuz he's soooo cooool!) and walked a little ways, and then he turned around, and yelled "I'LL BE BACK LADIES!" and followed that with several provocative pelvic thrusts. so again, feeling annoyed at the stupidity of ann arbor, i yelled back "i'll be waiting!" which..in retrospect, i should probably stop yelling things to wasted guys who are significantly larger than i am... but anyways, so after i yelled, those guys started walking back toward us.. soo the 7 of us started running and took refuge in the lounge of mona's dorm, where we hung out and just talked for like.. an hour and a half.. we left around 3:30. from there, we were headed back to south quad, and we saw shrooms guy AGAIN. so we took a detour and ran back to south. i went to rohit's room to get all my free stuff from meijer/target, and i asked him which stairway i should take to get to the dorm exit, and rohit went to show me... and he closed the door, only to realize he left his room key inside. oh, and his roommate isn't in town this weekend. so rohit was totally SOL. soo unfortunately i am futon-less, but i gave him a blanket and pillow and he crashed on my floor... and finally at 4 AM, we fell asleep.
so that was my night. it was soo much fun, and i felt really excited that everyone i hung out with was really... anti-drinking. like, every time we saw someone wasted, we talked about how stupid it was and how pathetic it is to drink yourself into a stupor...
so yes, it's true, it IS possible to have fun in ann arbor without alcohol. who knew?
