Re: How to Lose Friends and Alienate Countries

Mar 24, 2009 08:07

I watched this video a few nights ago (see geekgrrllurking 's post) and was greatly offended. Rather than post a comment and possibly spam her post, I felt the need to post a response of my own to this boorish attempt at 'humour'.

Fox 'News' and I definitely use this term very lightly saw fit to air this video and they had no idea the impact it would have in the country it had the longest unprotected border with up until recently? To insult our armed forces, our Mounted Police and our sensibilities was crass and insensitive to those families on both sides of the border who have lost friends and family. Does no-one in that corporation even check what they are airing? This concept shouldn't have even been given breath, let alone been aired. There are still some ignorant people that will actually take this as 'news'.

And did you read/hear his 'apology'? When you add something to the effect that its supposed to be satire, etc. it kind of takes away from the apology.  Given the backlash from his comments toward Canadian armed forces, can you even imagine if he'd made similar comments about the US armed forces? Not freakin' funny you moron!

I work very closely with both country's armed forces and take great offence to this sort of 'humour'.  Not to mention that a great number of the conflicts that Canada has been involved in have been in support of or due to the effects of American involvement. Oh, and that remark about the most powerful nation in the 'universe'? You don't have to wonder why many people in other countries are offended by Americanism.

This is not a slam at my friends south of the border. I have many and I know they are all very good, sane and socially conscious people (that's why they're my friends!).  Stuff a pillow in it sir, you embarrass the good citizens of your nation.

End Rant.
