Pushing Daisies!!! Watch and Save it!

Ok so I am writing on my journal about Pushing Daisies in an effort to raise the viewership of a much beloved but as of late, little watched show! Due to the writer’s strike most sophomore shows have taken a hit, but Daisies took the most of the blow, their viewership dropping almost 6 million viewers, and ABC might not be willing to keep it on for the rest of the season!

For those of you unfamiliar with the series centers around Ned (played by the adorable Lee Pace), the pie maker who also has an uncanny knack for raising the dead with one touch. But the gift comes with a catch, the dead can only be alive again for one minute or another thing has to die.  He and his partner Emerson Cod solve murder cases by using his ability to talk to the murder victims and find out and who killed them. He eventually resurrects his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte “Chuck” Charles (sweet Ana Friel) to solve a murder case, but is unable to let her die again, so he keeps her alive, and subsequently they cannot touch. Spending much of the time in The Pie Hole, the restaurant where Ned and Olive Snook (Kristen Chenoweth) work. Olive is a waitress who is smitten with Ned and has a habit of breaking into song fully utilizing her amazing voice. The show is a quirky masterpiece and it needs to be watched!

If the summary didn’t convince you that you need to watch this show, here are some of the reasons why I love this eccentric show!

1.       The Narrator

Jim Dale, well-known for narrating the Harry Potter novels narrates this show like it’s a fairy tale, with his dry humor and sarcasm he adds a new layer to this show, whether it’s his dark humor when dealing with death, or his light hearted analysis of Ned and Chucks relationship he is one of the most loved characters on the show.

2.       The Dialogue

This show has such snappy fast dialogue that is just some of the best writing I have ever seen. At one point I will be laughing at what was just said, thinking that I will be quoting it for the next month, when suddenly another line comes along and knocks my socks off. The characters communicate using quirky phrases and such precise language that I am shocked that this show was made in the era of text messaging! For example Chuck says, “I woke up this morning to the smell of toast and eggs drifting through sun-dappled curtains and I thought to myself how lucky I am to live in a world with sun-dappled anything!” Besides making “sun-dappled” my new favorite phrase, this just shows how clever and sweet the show can be.

3.       The Songs

Olive Snook, played by Kristen Chenoweth most famous for portraying Glinda in the play Wicked, sings many a song on this show, including “Hopelessly Devoted To You” a “Sound of Music” parody and my all time favorite, and what got me hooked on this show, is when she sung an impromptu version of “Birdhouse In Your Soul” by my favorite band They Might be Giants. This adds another magical feature to the show never knowing when a song could just happen, and an entire musical episode is rumored to be in production…….: )

So those are just three extra reasons that I love this show and I could think of an so many more, but don’t have time to list them all here. So I hope that I have convinced you to watch this amazing show and keep it on the air!
