Last night was the first Strictly Music show of the year. Overall it
went pretty well. Even the unknown bands were decent in quality, and
Black Water Graffiti played their best show to date. There were a lot
of technical problems during our set, such as my monitor going out
completely and the DI's not working for the keyboard. We ended up
cutting out several songs just to get the show over with. I was pretty
depressed (and angry). Although, from talking to people afterward I
guess we had really good energy, which I guess in the long run is
better then playing everything right and being boring to watch. It just
frustrates me when there are stupid mess ups that could have easily
have been avoided. I'm interested to hear the recording of our set,
even though I'm pretty sure most of the tracks will be useless for
anything other then an analysis of where we went wrong. After talking
to Carl we've both come to the conclusion that the band needs to get
its act together when it comes to our live performance. No one wants to
point fingers, but there's a few places that really stand out as
needing work. Practice, practice, practice, is the name of the game
now.
Working in the studio has also made everyone take a step
back and really look at how we're playing the songs and what works and
what doesn't. When you're recording every little trip up stands out.
Right now the drums, bass, and almost all of the lead guitar are
finished. It's been great to be able to record at our own pace and
really work on each piece, insted of trying to track everything in one
run. Also, not having to think about money is a huge plus.
